Dec 9-The Black Diamonds lost in the finals of the A Division of the Goal Digger Tournament to Jackson Hole, 7-2, whom they had beat the day before 3-2. Other game scores included a 6-2 win over the Sun Valley Sunsets on Saturday, the 8th and a close loss, 5-4 to the Lady Grizz on Friday night.
Coach Bob Devaney stated, "Sometimes it doesn't all work out. We lost in the finals to a very good team that we had beaten earlier in the tournament. The A division has parity - any one of the teams could have won.
We fell behind early in the game, but did not throw in the towel and kept plugging away. Nice; it's easy to do the opposite.
May I remind you that several years ago we were just trying to stay close in the B division. Better to go down in a close game in A, than win easily in the B division. And also remind you how well you did in the game against the Predators last week. You looked around the dressing room and did not see the traditional players that usually made the difference, you had to do it yourselves and guess what, you did.
There were a lot of good things that happened this weekend and we should not lose sight of that."

American Cancer Society's Relay For Life
May 11, 2007 - 10:30 PM
On August 17, 2007 the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life will be held in Park City at the Quinn's Junction Recreation Complex from 6 pm to 6 am. In addition to the usual format of teams camping out & partying & walking around the track all night in relay fashion, there's a new twist. There's a parallel event at the ice rink & we will actually get to play a hockey game. Are you psyched or what?
For those of you who have participated before, you know what an incredibly moving event this can be. If you've never experienced the thrill of RFL, now is your opportunity. It's a chance to bond with your teammates, demonstrate your community spirit, honor those who have battled cancer, & celebrate this worthy cause.
Basically, teams of 10 to 15 people sign up to raise a minimum of $100 each for the American Cancer Society, camp out overnight, & participate in the amazing spirit of the relay. The ACS makes it very easy to raise money with their streamlined websites, blogs, & fundraising kits. They offer all sorts of incentive prizes to teams & individuals.
The 12-hour event is loaded with tons of exciting activities, prizes, free food, music, & entertainment. The survivor's lap & luminaria ceremony are particularly inspiring. I'm in charge of organizing the ice portion of this extravaganza & am happy to announce that I have landed a title sponsor to cover the cost of renting the arena. Now it's time to spread the word & have as much fun as possible.
Eric Heiden & Grisbee have already agreed to join us. I am also trying to get Claude Lemieux and/or Luc Robitaille for the "skating with the stars" sessions. There will be a speedskating demonstration, men's hockey game, women's hockey game, broomball for all ages, & free skating blocks.
I have already registered 2 teams so I'm looking for 20 to 30 people, including 2 goalies. This is a very kid-friendly event & actually fun for the whole family. If you'll be in town that weekend & want to do something incredibly worthwhile with your teammates, I urge you to join us for this special version of the Relay For Life. If you know you won't be around but would like to contribute to the team effort, a donation (tax-deductible of course) would be most appreciated also.
For more information, don't hesitate to call or email me. You can also check out the various websites & blogs: www.acsevents.org/relay/ut/parkcity, www.relayforlife.org, & www.parkcityjournal.com. There is a team captains meeting on Wednesday, May 16. I'd like to have a rough idea of the roster by then so think about it & send me an RSVP, either way. Thanx in advance for your dedication to "Help Us Ice Cancer". I hope to hear from you soon.
Love and in training,
Lisa Ruskin
