The Ride Leader is Responsible for the Safety of the ENTIRE Group
ISSUES
**** Ride Leader obeys all laws regarding stop signs, No Passing / Passing zones, etc… If after the Ride Leader stops, he chooses to use blockers to get the group thru an intersection, it is still the individual riders decision to decide if the move is safe enough to proceed. An alternative to blocking is to move the formation through the intersection in groups of 8. The Ride Captain will then stop in a safe location for everyone to catch up.
*** The Ride Leader will NEVER take a group around traffic in a No
Passing Zone
GROUP SEPERATION
SOLUTIONS:
* Ride Leader structures the ride to the level of the newest / weakest rider
* Ride Leader ALWAYS watches his/her mirrors for the last person in the
group and for a signal from the Tail Gunner that everyone is present.
* Tail Gunner and Ride members inform the Ride Leader (honking horns,
waving etc) of any separation of the group
* Ride Leader stops at a SAFE location (parking lot etc…) to wait for
separated member to catch up. This way members don’t have feel
rushed to catch up or get left behind.
* Ride Leader ensures that no one “Runs Off” and leaves the rest of the
group behind by maintaining a steady pace through out the ride.
LOSING PART OF THE GROUP AT A BREAK
SOLUTIONS:
* Ride Leader knows at the start of a ride how many bikes are involved
* Ride leader states how long the break is and gives a 3 minute warning
before taking off,
* Ride leader counts the bikes then looks to make sure everyone is
together before entering traffic
<>SOLUTIONS
<> * Ride Leader gets with the Tail Gunner to go over the route to identify turns >* Ride Leader signals a lane change with hand signals AND turn signals,
well in advance of the move. When it is SAFE, The Tail Gunner is the
first to move over and maintains that position until the lane is clear
enough for the entire group to move over, then the group moves over from
Last to First, in that order.
* On entering the Interstate, a Blocker will move immediately behind the
Ride Leader. As he enters the interstate, when it is safe, he will be first to
move over into the lane, keeping his signals on, and if possible slow
down enough to allow the rest of the formation to enter in front of him.
He will then pull in front of the Tail Gunner.
* While on an Interstate and approaching an “On Ramp”, the Tail Gunner
will move to the passing lane when safe, with all others following him
over after the lane clears in front of him. The group will stay together
in the passing lane until after the Tail Gunner moves back into the slow
lane, clearing that lane for the group.
* If the group becomes separated on an Interstate, the Ride Captain will
slow to the safest speed allowable until the group is caught up.
