Five Seals players Capture College Honors

November 10, 2006
Matt Fitzgerald (Saint Mary’s), Kevin Long (USF), Geremy Uhl (USF), Chris Rodd (USF), and Luke Sassano (Cal) all earned honors recognition for their college play this season.

USF senior defender Kevin Long captured second team honors for the second straight season, along with teammates Geremy Uhl (senior) and Chris Rodd (junior).

Geremy Uhl ranked second in overall and conference with his goalkeeper play this season.  “Uhl’s records speak for themselves in breaking Kasey Keller’s WCC shutout reconrd,” stated Eric Visser, USF head coach.  “Keven Long is widely recognized as one of the primary left-backs on the west coast and I think he played every minute of action during conference play. Chris Rodd has made us a stronger, more complete team this season. He organized the defense and made a tremendous impact on the program and helped us compete in a very demanding schedule."

Cal’s Luke Sassano earned honorable mention for his solid play in the midfield.  In the 18 games played, Luke contributed one goal and four assists this season.  Six of his eleven shots were on goal.

For Saint Mary’s midfielder Matt Fitzgerald, it marks the fourth consecutive year that the conference has recognized his strong play. Fitzgerald has earned first-team honors in In three of the last four years. This year he finished the season with a team-high 11 points on four goals and three assists. Fitzgerald ranks third all-time at SMC in assists with 17 and fifth in points with 41 and seventh in goals with 12. The Castro Valley native played in 77 career games which ranks 4th all-time at SMC.

The USF Dons play the New Mexico Lobos at 7pm tonight (Friday November 10), at Negoesco stadium.  Cal takes on the winner of that match this coming Wednesday night at home.
