We would first like to thank the Spiece organization for a wonderful summer of basketball and fellowship. Spiece is truly a class organization, ran by class people, and we wish them nothing but the very BEST! Mr. Bill Hensley, the patriarch of the Spiece Gym Rats set the bar for all others to follow in Grass Roots Basketball. We will never forget what he developed and why he developed it. His are some big shoes to fill, and there will never be anyone to come around again that handled things with honor and respect the way Bill did. We miss you Bill.... rest in peace.
And now....for the BIG NEWS . . . . . WE'RE BACK! The Indiana Sharks are pleased to announce that they are back for the summer of 2009. After a summer of joining up with Spiece, the Sharks have decided to get back to what we do best, and promote our kids to the very best of our ability!

We look forward to the summer of 2009, and following our players through the school year of 2008 as we did last year! We are very pleased with the way our young men handled themselves this year through change and as with any summer, a little adversity! We hope that all of our young men go through this school year and take with them all that Coach Wilkerson has taught them over the summer!

Unlike many AAU and Summer programs, Coach Wilkerson is a teacher, coach, mentor and disciplinarian. That being said, there is nothing that he wouldn't do for each and every one of his current or past players.

Next summer (2009) we will be opening up the field to more teams again. We currently have a very strong incoming freshman team and 2010 Jr. to be team. We will be adding more teams for the summer of 2009.

If you are interested in Coaching a team for the summer of 2009, please contact us at info@indianasharks.com as soon as possible. We will be holding tryouts in February for all teams except the High School teams. High School players will be having try outs after the IHSAA state Championship game.

SHARKS SEEKING NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS!

Change is GOOD.... someone once said . . . well, as the Indiana Sharks roll into it's seventh year of existence we are looking to bring in some NEW BLOOD to the Indiana Sharks Student Athlete Development Group "BOARD OF DIRECTORS!”

We feel it's important to bring in the ideas and opinions of others, and prepare the Indiana Sharks for a long term impact on Indiana Athletics and it's most precious resource. . it's student athletes!

It's unfortunate that many people want to criticize, and complain about how things are ran by those that volunteer their time to help the youth of our state, but few accept the challenge to help make things better! This is YOUR CHANCE!

We are currently seeking Men and Women who are not afraid to be a part of something greater than themselves, and offer time and dedication to build something great for the student athletes in the great state of Indiana!

If you are willing to:

Be willing to invest in Indiana's Student Athletes (Time or Money . .maybe BOTH),

Offer solutions, and not just criticism,

Be willing to meet at least twice each month (one hour meetings),

Assist in sponsorship drives and fund raising events,

Offer guidance and leadership to the group. Bring something to the table in the way of expertise in a field or experience in grass-roots sports organizations.

Then . . we are looking for you! Meetings will be held in Southern Indiana on the second and last Thursday of each month. This will be my final year as acting Director of the organization, and I am looking for someone that can step in and take over! I will still be very active in the organization after stepping down as Director, maybe as a coach for a team, or maintaining this web-site . . . who knows, but I'll still be around to offer help to the board as needed.

CONGRATULATIONS to the 2008 HOOSIER SHOWCASE CHAMPIONS!!!

Coach Wilkerson and his Spiece Gym Rats 2010 team started their July off in TOP FORM by taking the Hoosier Showcase Championship by defeating the NorthWest Ohio All-Star squad in a 24 point margin! The guys ended the three day tournament with a record of 6-1.

Several Colleges were on hand to see our Gym Rats in action while they took one of what we are sure will be many championships as this team gets better and better with each game.

The SGR 2010 team will be in action again this week at the Kentucky Hoopfest (schedule below) College Coaches are urged to witness this team on their way to yet another Championship!

STATE CHAMPIONS 2008!

The Spiece Gym Rats 2010 went 6-0 this weekend against some of Indiana's top Jr to be teams to win the Indiana USSSA State Championship. The team played very hard all weekend, and finally turned the corner to realize their potential. The 2010 Rats had wins against PAL Elite Black and Red, Indiana Blue Devils, North West Ohio Basketball Club, Spiece Gym Rats-Foust and Spiece Gym Rats - Jewell!

ALL players contributed in the Championship series, but there was some concern when one of our two post players went down with an ankle injury. A.J. Adams suffered a high ankle sprain which sidelined him for the tournament series, but everyone stepped up and got the job done. This was a true representation of ultimate team work, and fantastic Coaching by both Coach Wilkerson and Coach Luther. Although neither of them want any credit for this championship, we could NOT have done this without their leadership and guidance. Thanks Coaches!

The cheering section was outstanding with every player on the team having family and friends there to cheer them on in their 6 game rout against every team they played in the 16 team field.

Coaches Wilkerson and Luther stated how proud they were of the teams tenacity and heart throughout the series, and in their ability to finish the close games by never giving up. The work ethic displayed by the guys this weekend to them to the State Championship in a decisive manner.
