MESSAGE FROM THE SMSS LEAGUE COMMISSIONER BOB ADAMS
Can you imagine your Grandfather still playing softball? We can!
WELCOME to the Southern Minnesota Senior Softball web site. We would appreciate it if you would sign our Guest Register and offer some of your comments about this site. Please encourage your friends and ballplayers to also give us a look and offer their comments. We are trying hard to take our league communications to a new level, so the feedback is important to us. Thanks in advance for helping us out.
Our league is thrilled with the excellent response we have had from both players and sponsors. We have opened with a 5-team league, 4 teams from Rochester and 1 team from Owatonna.
We give our sincerest thanks to our Owatonna "connections" Larry Bates, Player-Manager of the Owatonna team, Fischer Sports, and Marilyn Elaragon from the Owatonna Senior Center. Their cooperative involvement allows our league to serve the greater southern Minnesota area and give more senior men a chance to play organized softball.
We too must thank the folks in Rochester; without their initial support the league would not have gotten off the ground. We appreciate the efforts of Macken Plumbing, Adler Sports, Superior Screening, McMurphy's Sports Cafe, Century Hill A & W, Rochester Senior Center and Coca-Cola.
League play occurs at venues in Rochester and Owatonna. In Rochester there are games every Wednesday @ 10:15 am and at 8:45 am on alternating Wednesdays. In Owatonna there are games every other week at 9:00 am.
Our initial league census included the following:
24 senior players age 55 to 60
31 senior players age 61 to 69
6 senior players age 70 and up
INTERESTED IN PLAYING? We still need more ball players and have sponsors waiting to establish new teams if the interest level rises. Come out and give us a try - you're never too old, out of shape or lack experienced with this league.
QUESTIONS? Check out the web site for contact info, practice schedules, team rosters, game schedules, current standings and a host of other goodies. Questions? Either email us or give us a phone call.
