Claws and Hounds meet again hoping to get this one in as the clouds were hovering. Claws jump out to a quick lead, and starting pitcher Frank Maisano held the Hounds at bay over the first 3 innings striking out 7 batters, but there was still more bite in these Hounds, as they started to let the dogs out by generating 10 runs over the last 3 innings. Claws bats got real hot though, led by Vinny "Boom Batz" Cresho 4-5 (3B, 2B), Paul "Jersey Shore" Deluca 3-4 (ITP HR, 2B), Maisano 2-3 (2B) 2BB, Robert "Rocket" Madison 2-4 (3B), Karin "Showtime" Ojeda 2-3, Jake "the Snake" Tomasi 2-3 (3B), and Nino Scala 2-4. Hounds offense led by Joe Akel 3-3, Eric Marks 1-2, 2BB, and Nick Lenzo 1-3 (2B) BB, with hits from John Akel and Matt McDonough. Hounds Pitch Lenzo, Liam O'Donnell, and John Akel who put up a great combined effort! Deluca provides middle relief for the Claws and the Rocket comes in to close it out. Hats off to the Hounds for hanging tough and battling to the end. Great job and sportsmanship by both teams!

The Rivercats scratched out a tuff win against the Iron Pigs Saturday, leaving every ounce of effort of the field. It was the best of Baseball on Field 2 Saturday all the emotion, sweat and plain old guts you could want in a game. The Cats leaped out to a early lead, but the Iron Pigs fought back with 1 in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd, making it 5-2. The Rivercats answered back with
3 in the top of the 5th to tie it at 5. But the Iron Pigs weren't done adding 5 more runs in the their half of the inning putting the Iron pigs up 10-5. Now with their backs against the wall (never corner a CAT) the Rivercats clawed their way to a hard fought 12-10 victory over the Iron Pigs.

In what proved to be the most exciting and hard fought victory for the Gnats this year, this come from behind victory will be remembered by all. The Mudcats strike first, scoring 2 in the 1st inning and holding the Gnats to only 1 run after the end of 2 innings with great pitching by the cats Brian Deem. The Cats runaway in the 3rd with 5 runs, to make it 7-1. The Gnats offense pulled it together and realized the only way out was pure power hitting, starting with strong triples by Aidan Gallipoli and Gabe Rispoli, who helped to qucikly close the gap to 7-6 going into the 4th. Alec Helminger kept the power going with a triple of his own in the 4th, causing the Gnats for the first time to overtake the Cats, 9-7. Key hits by the Gnats Vincent Ambrosino, Juan Gomez and Mike Cordiano kept the lead growing, while the Cats answered with runs of their own. Gnats pitcher,Jack Cordiano, was under heavy pressure to keep the lead over the Cats going into the 6th and did so, with authority. Manny Sosa stepped in to close the 6th for another clutch performance. Most exciting play of game in the 6th inning with 2 outs and the Cats mounting a comeback, when a line drive was hit to Alec Helminger at 2nd base. The Cats made an aggressive run for home plate on the shot to 2nd and to tie the game, however, Alec "the heat" Helminger had a different idea and sizzled the ball to catcher Gabe Rispoli who layed down the tag to end the inning and win the game at home plate!
Defensively, Sean Arkins took command of his short stop position and made several key outs for the Gnats including a double play by catching a fly ball in the grass and stepping on 2nd to get the second out! A truly exciting game to watch as both teams gave it their all and a job well done by both.

The Rockhounds edged the Sea Dogs 3 to 1 in a game dominated by pitching and defense. Rockhounds starter Eric Marks allowed just 1 run over 4 1/3 innings and struck out 5. The Sea Dogs Jason Schnur was just as impressive striking out 10 in 3 2/3 innings. The Hounds scored all of the runs in the 2nd getting an RBI single from Brian McDonough and a 2 run single from Joe Akel. Both teams played spectacular defense: Marks made a diving catch on a Kyle Healy liner to end the third; Sea Dogs SS Mike Mezza saved a run by fielding a short hop that was absolutely blistered and throwing to first for the out; Hounds 1B John Akel scooped out several throws in the dirt for big outs. Liam O'Donnell pitched into and out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th to secure the win.

HOME RUN - Robert Madison

Claws and Nats meet once again and most certainly do not disappoint. In a tight game over the first 3 innings, it was a pitcher's duel between the claws Frankie Maisano and the Nats Alec Helminger, with the score 3-2 claws. However, the Nats capitalize on some key walks and heads up base running to jump ahead 7-3 at the end of the 4th inning. Claws "claw" back with 2 runs in the 5th making it 7-5, and after a defensive hold, we enter the top of the 6th. With 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, the claws get to the top of the order when Pauly "Jersey Shore" Deluca delivers a scorching line drive (3B) bringing in the tying runs! With that Robert "rocket" Madison comes up and drills a towering shot right over the fence in straight away center on field 3 for a legitimate Home Run, putting the claws ahead 9-7! And as if that wasn't enough, the rocket comes onto the mound in the bottom of the 6th to close out the amazing save! Claws were led by Madison 3-4 (HR), Deluca 2-4 (3B), with hits by Cresho, Maisano, Scala, and a bullet line drive by Karin "Showtime" Ojeda that scored a run! Nats led by Jack Cordiano 3-4 (2B), with hits by Gomez, Mike Cordiano, Gallipoli, and Helminger. This truly was one exciting, well played game by both teams!

The claws and cats meet once again on Gibbons field on a gorgeous day for baseball. Claws go on the offensive first putting up runs, but the cats claw through it every step of the way. The cats were led by Brian Deem 2-3, Sal Gioia 2-3 (3B), Patrick Boyle 2-2, and hits from Tyler Class, Kenny Hart, and Ayden Quinn. Claws led by Paul Deluca 4-5 (2B), Robert Madison 2-4 (ITP HR), Frank Maisano 2-2, 3BB, Vinny Cresho 2-3 (2B), Nate "Mailman" Norman 2-3 (3B, 2B), and Karin "Showtime" Ojeda, who blasted a bullet shot that led to an ITP HR! Jake Tomasi, Sean Steuber, Christian Norman, and Alex Valenti all score runs as well! Cats get great starting pitching from Deem and the Claws get a combined effort from starter Deluca 7 k's and Scala, who closed it out. Biggest highlight of this game was the courage and character that the Mudcats displayed by hanging in tough to the end, and the sportsmanship of both teams who celebrated together after the game, under the lights, all with smiles on their faces. Hats off to both teams, coaches, and parents!

The Knights then tacked on more runs when Nick Rosa and Evan Mills scored on a two-run double by Thomas Ludolph. The Rivercats answered back in their half of the inning with a couple walks with a Anthony Biondi single mixed in and a Max Snowden Blast for a bases clearing triple. Max would later score on heads up base running taking home on a passed ball. That was all the run support Robert Huegel would need, but the Rivercats added a couple more in the 3rd and 2 more in the 5th to round out the scoring. Robert Huegel threw 13 k's in relief

Sandgnats' bats were buzzing, quickly running up to a 5-0 lead only to have it erased by monster "in the park homers" by Reece M., Mat S., and Nick M of the Hotrods in the 3rd inning. Once again, Alec "the heat" Helminger delivers, dealing out 9 k'sand and keeping the #1 ranked Hotrods to a 5-5 tie after 4 innings. Mike Cordiano relieved "the heat" with a stellar performance and it was 10-10 after 6 innings with a double by Juan Gomez and rbi's by Jack Cordiano, Alec Helmlinger and Aidan Gallipoli.. Play continued into extra innings and key rbi's by Avery Munley and Ryan Dever helped propell the Sandgnats to victory. Ryan Dever and Ryan Marino both answered when called up to play in AAA, with impressive performances. Defensively, the Sandgnats were flying all around.. Aidan Gallipoli in his first time at ss, made a breathtaking diving catch with bases loaded to save a run and Alec Helminger prevented another possible "in the park homer" with a nice catch deep in Centerfield. Outstanding catcher performance by Jack Cordiano.

Also hitting for the Sea Dogs were Kyle Healy (3-3,BB,3R,2RBI,2SB), Mike Mezza (3-3,BB,R,2RBI,3SB) and Joe Payne (2-3). In an unlikely twist, Matt "Big Dog" Saglembieni (2-2,3B,R,2RBI) legs out his second triple in 2 consecutive at bats causing the Sea Dog's front office to question whether or not he should be batting lead-off. E. Mills led the Knights going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored. N. Rosa contributed with a double and Z. Tamaro, T. Ludolph and J. Schnur each singled. M. Mezza went 4 innings for the win and K. Claws strike first with 2 runs in the first inning, only to be answered right back by 2 runs from the Pigs. Claws tack on another 2 in the 3rd and then break it open in the top of the 4th with a 5 run inning, but again in response, the Pigs strike back with 5 runs of their own keeping the game close. Pigs tie it up in the bottom of the 5th setting the stage for nail biter of an ending. With 2 outs in the top of the 6th, Sean "too tall" Steuber draws a walk, getting to the top of the order for the Claws. Paul "Jersey Shore" Deluca draws another walk, and Robert Madison delivers a hard hit double bringing in the go ahead run. With runners still on base, Frankie Maisano delivers a hard line drive, scoring another 2 runs to give the Claws some breathing room. Robert "rocket" Madison finishes the game for the save, but not without a little help from his catcher Nino Scala who throws out 2 runners stealing 2nd base! Claws starting pitcher Maisano goes 3 innings striking out 6. Pigs get solid pitching from Kistner and Gulick. Claws offensive leaders were Madison 4-4, Maisano 2-2, 2BB, and Cresho 2-4.
