Sting 92 Win State Title
Sting 92 won the 2008 MMFL Fall State B Championship on Sunday September 28. The title was won in four games behind solid pitching, good defense, and timely hitting while the Sting outscored their opponents 19 - 4. In game 1 Courtney Mills and Kayti Hanson each drove in runs with doubles in an exciting six inning international tie breaker win over the Artic Blast. Kelsey Anderson struck out five and limited the Blast to five hits to earn the win. Game 2 was won on the arm of Elise Hill who pitched a five inning shutout over New Ulm allowing only four hits while striking out nine. Anderson drove in the lone run with a double. Game 3 was highlighted by an Amanda Skelly rbi single in the 5th inning breaking a scoreless tie; and, sterling defensive plays from Cortney Hernandez and Hanson en route to a 3 - 0 win over Spring Lake Park.

The Sting's bats exploded in the championship game won by a final score of 11 - 1 over a tough North St Paul team. Everybody contributed led by Courtney Mills three hits and two rbi, and Erin Yancy's two hits and two runs scored. With one out in the second inning, Elise Hill drew a walk. Kelsey Stoltman, Stephanie Rouse, and Yancy each followed with consecutive base hits and stolen bases. Taylor Mackey's two run single capped the scoring. When the dust settled the Sting had scored four runs and broken the game open. They never looked back. Hill allowed one hit and struck out six NSP hitters over four innings. Mackey closed out the game with three strikeouts in a scoreless 5th for the championship.

In a touching moment after the final game the Sting invited 10U State Champions and 12 U Runner Ups from Cottage Grove to join them on the field for photographs.

"First I would like to congratulate you on your victory at the 2008 MMFL Fall State tournament in Cottage Grove! I would also like to thank your staff and your players of the Sting '92 for being so kind and gracious to the 10U & 12U girls watching their final game. It meant a lot to them having been invited onto the field, having pictures taken with the 'big' girls and players like Elise Hill taking time during the game to talk with our young pitchers". Mitch Mortenson, CGAA Softball.

The Sting Organization and Coaches thank and congratulate the Sting 92 girls for their character and kindness. It is noticed by more people than you might think, and is always appreciated.
