Two Big Wins Earn Sting a Day Off
Sting 93 continued to play excellent softball on Thursday, July 3 to win their first two bracket games at the Colorado Sparkler. The girls opened with a nice win over the Colorado Rebels 92. Sting scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the first inning, then got great pitching and tough defense to hold the Rebels to only two runs the rest of the way.

In the second game, Sting 93 faced the Minnesota Renegades Black. Sting pecked away at the Renegades with agressive base running and a few key hits to win 4 - 0. Sting pitching was again outstanding as the Renegades were held to just three base-runners in the seven inning game.

With the two wins, Sting 93 earned a Fourth of July holiday and won't play again until Saturday, July 5 at 9:45 against the Milwaukee Competitors. Sting's Colorado trip record now stands at 9 - 2 and their season record is 28 - 7.

Sting Go 3 - 1 in Sparkler Pool Games
On July 1st and 2nd, Sting 93 continued to play well on their Colorado trip by winning three of their four pool-play games at the Sparkler tournament. Their wins were against the Clovis (near Fresno, California) Rockets 7 - 3, the Colorado Rumble 8 - 0, and the Oklahoma Dynamite Badside 4 - 1. The Sting's only pool loss was by a score of 6 - 3 to the same Northern Ice team that the girls beat 11 - 0 on Sunday in Fort Collins.

Colorado Sparkler Tournament bracket play begins on Wednesday, July 3. Sting will play in the "Gray's Peak" bracket, which consists of the 31 teams who finished second in their pool. Their first game is against the Colorado Rebels 92 at 9:45 on Thursday morning.

93's Place First at Colorado Classic
It was another beautiful day in Fort Collins on Sunday, June 29, and the Sting made the most of it by taking first place in their pool at the 16U Colorado Classic (the Classic is a simple round-robin tournament in which teams are grouped into six-team pools - there is no bracket play).

The first match-up of the day was the key game. Sting's opponents, Northern Ice, from the Chicago area, had won all three of their games on Saturday and were the team to beat. But in their first game on Sunday, the Ice lost leaving the door open for the Sting to clinch first place with a win. Sting came out smashing the ball all over the park, including yet another over-the-fence homerun, while only allowing the Ice a single base runner in the four innings played. Sting was ahead 4 - 0 after three innings and then scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to go ahead 11 - 0. The game was then called due to the 10-run rule.

After clinching first place with a win, the girls let down a bit against the Colorado Cardinals. The Sting jumped ahead 2 - 0 after the first inning, but then failed to score the rest of the way. The Cardinals scored in each of the remaining five innings to win the game 8 - 2.

Sting Undefeated in Day One of Classic
Sting 93 played excellent softball in excellent weather with excellent views to win their first three games of the Colorado Classic in Fort Collins on June 28. With the mountains in the distance, a cool breeze, and a bright sun, Sting batters smacked three over-the-fence homeruns against teams from Ohio, Colorado, and California.

In the first game, Sting shutout Cincy Storm 4 - 0. In game two, Sting defeated the Fort Collins Stars 5 - 1. In the final game of the day, Sting 93 hit two homeruns to defeat the California Tornados 8 - 4. It was a very impressive start to the Colorado trip to beat three quality 16U teams at the Colorado Classic.

Sting Win Lakeville Grand Slam Tournament
On Sunday, June 15 Sting 93 defeated Omaha Sizzle Red 3 - 0 to claim the championship of the 24-team Lakeville Grand Slam Tournament. The win was the team's third shutout in the six games played. Overall, the Sting outscored their opponents 55 - 5.

The Sting had two homeruns in their 12 - 1 semifinal victory over New Prague giving the team four "over-the-fencers" for the tournament. Their first bracket play game was a 6 - 3 quarterfinal win against Spring Lake Park. The team had a first-round bye as a result of winning their pool on Saturday.

Sting 93 opened the tournament on Friday, June 13 with a win over Lakeville Ice-Olson by a score of 8 - 0. On Saturday, Sting beat Cottage Grove-Harden 16 - 1 and Wayzata-Higbee 10 - 0. Against Wayzata, the Sting started the game off with a homerun over the left field fence. Then, three batters later, the Sting drilled another homerun - this time over the center field fence. Both games Saturday were ended after the fourth inning by the tournament's 10-run rule.

Winning the 16U title in Lakeville was a nice achievement for the 14U 93's whose next tournament will be in Colorado for the 16U Sparkler.

Sting 93 Take Second at Rookies Tournament
Sting 93 played excellent softball on Sunday, June 8, to claim second place in the 16U "A" division of the Harding Rookies Tournament in St. Paul. The Sting shut out MN Irish Carlson in the quarterfinal game to win 2 - 0. In the semifinal, Sting 93 shut out Hastings for the first six innings before giving up a meaningless run in the seventh to win the game 2 - 1. In the finals against 16U State Champions, MN Irish Hahn, Sting 93 again played well, but came up short by a score of 4 - 2 in six innings.

The Rookies tournament draws the state's very top 16U teams and a second place finish was quite an accomplishment for our 14U Sting 93's. Congratulations girls!
