Report for playoff game #4 November 13, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Laval Centre-Sud Cowboys |

 |
Silver medal for the rookie team |
|
The St-Lazare Stallions bantam team 'fought the run and the run won' when they played the Cowboys from Laval Centre Sud in the final of the President's Cup at Stade Hebert last Saturday. The Stallions' typically balanced rush/pass offence could not keep up the scoring pace with the Cowboys' powerful rushing game (over 470 yards) and they ended up being outscored 49-35. The game was an exciting back-and-forth shootout that had all the fans at the edge of their seats until the final whistle. After the Cowboys opened the scoring on a 6-yd rush by their star running back Laurentz Paul, who ended up scoring another rushing TD as well as throwing a TD pass, Stallions quickly equalized with a 2-yd pass from Alex Houle to Charles-Olivier Conway. Stallions turnovers allowed the Cowboys to go ahead 35-7 with four quick TDs, Maxime Morneau scoring three of them, all on short rushes of less than 9 yards, but the St-Lazare team regained the momentum just before the half with a 34-yd catch-and-run TD by Nathan Desnoyers. In the third quarter, the Stallions kept on scoring. First, they marched 85 yards to the end zone, finishing it with a 33-yd pass to Desnoyers. Then, they moved the ball 87 yards with Nick Lux scoring on a 9-yd rush. Finally, they executed a perfect on-site kick, which was recovered by Desnoyers and brought to the Cowboys 29-yd line. Justin McLean scored two plays later on a 12-yd pass. McLean also successfully converted all of the Stallions TDs. The Cowboys, however, regained the lead in the 4-th quarter and held on to it after Laurentz Paul scrambled back and forth, shaking off Stallions tacklers, for 74 yards to score his 2-nd TD of the game. Maxime Morneau scored again, on a 4-th down 1-yd rush, after another Stallions turnover. While Laurentz Paul received the MVP trophy for the Cowboys, Nathan Desnoyers was rewarded with the MVP trophy for St-Lazare for his 87 yards on 17 carries and 82 yards on 3 catches. Despite being hobbled by a knee injury, Nick Lux accumulated 90 yards on 20 carries in addition to a pass interception while playing on defense. Julian Bailey, Sam Hanson, Gabriel Cyr were standouts on defence for their solid tackles and Charles-Olivier Conway for a QB sack. After the game, the parents were all excited about the terrific game that they had just observed. They were also full of praise for the players and the coaches for being one of the four best bantam teams in the province in their rookie season.

Report for playoff game #3 November 7, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Vimon-Auteuil Patriotes |
 |
Bantam team to play for President's Cup |
|
The St-Lazare Stallions bantam team got back on the winning track with a convincing 39-24 win over the Vimont Patriotes. Incredible as it may seem, this was the first time that the bantam team was able to play a competitive game on their new field and they made the most of the occasion. The Stallions dominated the game right from the opening kickoff when the defence pushed the Patriotes all the way back to their 33-yd line and forced them to punt. The offence then took over and after just five plays established a lead when Alex Houle scored on a 1-yd QB sneak. They increased that lead to 20-0 after Nick Lux scored on a 1-yd rush and Justin McLean caught a 31-yd TD pass. Nathan Desnoyers added a 2-point convert. Nick Lux scored three more TDs for the Stallions on runs of 3, 35 and 28 yards, accumulating 215 yards on 29 carries in the process. The defence played a big part in the game with three interceptions: one by Jean-Francois Menard and two by Sam Hanson. Matthew Bourgoin-Horne recovered a fumble and sacked the Vimont QB 17 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Clement Seguin’s fumble recovery at the Vimont 11-yd line set up the second Stallions TD. Justin McLean finished the game with 120 yards on 7 catches while Nathan Desnoyers gained 75 yards on 12 rushes. Showing great discipline, the team was only penalized once for 5 yards during the entire game.

Report for playoff game #2 October 30, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs North Shore Lions |
 |
Tough loss to a tough team |
|
The St-Lazare Stallions bantam team's streak of 10
consecutive wins was broken last Saturday by a
powerful North Shore Lions. The Stallions managed
to keep the score close during the first half of
the game, even establishing a 7-6 lead early in
the second quarter but a series of turnovers
finally did them in and the Lions won the game
61-7. Of the nine touchdowns scored by the North
Shore team, six came after the Stallions turned
the ball over. On three separate occasions the
Stallions came within 15 yards or less of the
Lions end zone but they could not penetrate their
tough defense. They were still able to accumulate
113 yards passing and 121 yards rushing.
Bruno-Pierre Dandurand, Francis Hamel and Nick
Lux gained most of the rushing yards while
Nathan Desnoyers, Justin McLean and Chris
McCarthy gained most of the passing yards. On
the defensive side, Nick Lux contributed
with an interception and many tackles. Others who
stood out were Clement Seguin, Samuel Hanson,
Matthieu Lariviere and Christopher
McMullen.The lone Stallions touchdown was
scored, very fittingly, by Nathan Desnoyers
who played on the Lions team last year, on a 50-yd
catch-and-run play. Justin McLean kicked
the convert. Having been eliminated from the
Ballon d'Argent quest the Stallions now turn their
attention to playing for the President's Cup in
the consolation round.

 |
Stallions win their first playoff game |
|
The St-Lazare Stallions made the wishes of many football fans come true on Saturday when they defeated the Greenfield Park Packers 62-32 in the first round of the bantam playoffs and set up a much anticipated showdown with the North Shore Lions. After each team punted the ball on their first possession, the Stallions scored the next three times they had the ball. Nick Lux scored twice on 2-yard runs while Nathan Desnoyers scored on a 13-yard pass to give the Stallions a 18-6 half-time lead. The rookie team showed their scoring ability in the second half when they scored on their last five possessions. Nathan Desnoyers scored three more TDs: once on a 35-yard rush and twice from a yard out. Nick Lux added a 15-yard rushing TD and Alex Houle scored on a QB sneak. Desnoyers and Houle, in addition to Charles-Olivier Conway and Chris McCarthy added 2-point converts. Vincent Duquette scored a defensive TD in the 4-th quarter for the Stallions when he intercepted a Packers pass and ran 25 yards into the end zone. He also made a crucial defensive play just before the end of the second quarter when he recovered a Packers fumble at the Stallions 3-yard line. This alert play, with the Packers team threatening to score and close the points gap, gave the Stallions all the momentum they needed to hold off their opponents for the rest of the game. The Stallions accumulated over 500 yards in total offense. Nick Lux ran for 210 yards on 23 carries while Nathan Desnoyers added 119 yards on only 7 carries and 56 yards on 3 catches. Justin McLean set up several Stallions TDs with 118 yards on 3 catches. Stallions defence held the Packers in check with outstanding plays by Matthew Bourgoin-Horne, Jean-Francois Menard, Bruno-Pierre Dandurand and Adam David, who blocked a TD convert kick.

Report for regular season game #10 October 16, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Chateauguay Raiders |
|
The St-Lazare Stallions bantam team completed a
very successful rookie season by defeating the
Chateauguay Raiders 39-13 on Saturday.The
Stallions team set the tone for the game on the
second play after the opening kickoff when an
errant Raiders snap sailed over their QB into the
endzone and was recovered by Adam David,
giving the Stallions a quick 6-0 lead. They
followed it up with an 8-yd TD pass to Chris
McCarthy and a 10-yd toss toCharles-Olivier Conway.
Julian Bailey took over the QB position during the
2-nd and 3-rd quarters and scored a TD of his own
on a 2-yd QB sneak. Nick Lux, who carried
the ball 37 times for 211 yards, easily bringing
his season total to over 1000 yards, finished the
scoring for St-Lazare with two rushing TDs (13
yards and 4 yards). St-Lazare defence played
exceptionally well, especially in the first half,
when they held the Raiders to less than 50 yards
of total offence and sacked their QB twice.
Gabriel Cyr, Samuel Hanson and Vincent
Duquette each had an interception. Justin
McLean caught five passes for 105 yards and
Nathan Desnoyers added 60 yards on five
rushes and three catches. He also threw a 12-yd
pass. Stallions offence completely dominated the
play, gaining over 440 yards to the opponents 213
and 23 first downs compared to nine. After the
game, league officials were on hand to present to

Trophy.

Report for regular season game #9 October 9, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Lasalle Warriors |
|
For the third week in a row, the St-Lazare
Stallions bantam football team showed a lot of
poise and composure, this time to beat the Lasalle
Warriors 30-15. With this eight consecutive
victory, they clinched first place in the Earl de
la Perralle division and earned a promotion to the
Bill Allen division of the QBFL for next year's
team. The Stallions opened the scoring on their
second possession with a TD on a 2-yard QB sneak
by Alex Houle, which they followed up with
a 2-point convert pass to Julian Bailey.
Lasalle responded with a TD on a 19-yard rush but
failed to convert it. St-Lazare rebounded quickly
with a 42-yard TD pass to Nathan Desnoyers
and a 2-point convert pass to Chris
McCarthy. Justin McLean scored the
third Stallions TD on a 7-yd pass to give
St-Lazare team a 22-14 half-time lead. In the
second half, the defence held their opponents to
only 1 point while Nick Lux finished the
scoring with a 2-yard rushing TD late in the 4-th
quarter to seal the victory. While the Stallions
offence played a solid game, with 142 yards
passing (8 completions out of 15 passes) and 185
yards on 30 carries, it was their defence which
made the biggest difference. They sacked Lasalle's
QB six times, with Jean-Francois Menard
doing it twice. Michael Ness, Matthew
Bourgoin-Horne and Chris McMullen also
had sacks while Bruno-Pierre Dandurand had
a sack and an interception. Clement Seguin,
Corey Broom-Kozysen and Gabriel Cyr

Report for regular season game #8 October 2, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs St-Laurent Spartans |
|
The St-Lazare Stallions bantam team overcame cold and windy weather, a wet and muddy field as well as a fired up St-Laurent Spartans team to win their seventh straight game 34-8 on Saturday, Oct. 2. Neither team was able to score in the opening quarter. In the case of the Stallions, on three occasions, drives that had a lot of promise were snuffed out by fumbles. For St-Laurent, their offence was held in check by a very effective Stallions defensive unit, especially Matthew Bourgoin-Horne, Michael Ness, Alex Racette and Vincent Duquette. By the middle of the second quarter the Stallions figured out how to hold on to the ball and gain yards. They marched 50 yards down the field and finished with a 6-yard pass to tight end Charles-Olivier Conway for a 6-0 lead that they never relinquished. The Stallions continued their scoring ways on the next two possessions with Chris McCarthy scoring each time on 43 and 10-yd passing plays. Nick Lux added a 2-point convert for a 20-0 half-time lead. In the second half, Chris McCarthy showed everyone his running ability, taking a handoff at the St-Laurent 43-yd line, bouncing off a couple of defenders and sprinting down the left side into the end zone. The Spartans scored their only TD early in the 4-th quarter after their defence set them up at the Stallions 8-yd line with a fumble recovery. To finish the scoring, Nathan Desnoyers nearly duplicated his long scoring rush from the week before, this time running 70 yards for a TD, then following that up by catching a pass in the end zone for a 2-point convert. He finished the game with another 100-yd plus rushing effort and three catches for 40 yards. Nick Lux had 126 yards rushing on 11 carries. The QB, Alex Houle, had a remarkable performance considering the playing conditions. He completed 9 passes out of 15 for 134 yards and no interceptions.

The Stallions, however, sealed their victory in the fourth quarter with three more touchdowns: a 21-yd pass to Justin McLean and two more rushing touchdowns by Nathan Desnoyers, the second one, an 80-yd run, being highlighted by a spectacular leap over a sprawling Sun Youth defender. Report for regular season game #6 September 18, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Joliette Pirates |
|
The Joliette Pirates were the visitors for a re-match of their first encounter in week 2. The result was similar, with the Stallions winning the game by a score of 32-15. Both the offence and the defence contributed to the scoring, with Justin McLean and Chris McCarthy catching one TD pass each while the QB Alex Houle and running back Nick Lux scored TDs on the ground. Lux also scored a defensive touchdown after intercepting a Joliette pass at the Stallions 20-yd line and running it back 90 yards to the other end of the field. With the unusually cool and windy weather it was not a surprise that there were many turnovers in the game with the Stallions coming out ahead of their opponents with two fumble recoveries and additional interceptions by Sam Henson, Vincent Duquette, Bruno-Pierre Dandurand and Mathieu Lariviere, who was chosen by the coaches as the player of the game. Tight end Charles Conway, caught all four passes thrown to him, each one giving the Stallions a first down. Gabriel Cyr and Alexandre Racette made their presence felt with many good tackles. Most importantly, many different players had a chance to play and test their their skills against a determined team.

Report for regular season game #5 September 11, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Sun Youth Hornets |
|
The first year Bantam Stallions shocked Sun Youth with a 16-0 SHUTOUT win that puts them in first place in the Earl de la Perralle division. First touch down came in the second quarter on a 48-yard catch-and-run play by #88 Justin McLean, who went on to get another one with 6 seconds left in the first half. The defence did a fantastic job keeping Sun Youth from gaining yardage with good tackling and QB sacks by #35 Michael Ness and #48 Matthew Bourgoin-Horne, Corey Broom-Kozysen and Jean-Francois Menard. The offence gained over 350 yards, including 205 yards on 16 passes by the QB Alex Houle. Receiver Nathan Desnoyers took some hard hits but still made catches. Special mention to #34 "Hard Hit Nick" (Nicholas Lux) running back who played both ways: he gained 153 yards on 38 carries, caught an interception on defence and was chosen as the player of the game. Congratulations to our bantam players and to the dedicated coaches who brought this first year team to the top of their division by game 5.

Report for regular season game #2 August 21, 2004 St-Lazare Stallions vs Joliette Pirates |
|
On Saturday, August 21-st, the St-Lazare bantam football team travelled to Joliette for their first game against a team from the same division. Their opponents were the Pirates who beat the St-Laurent team a week earlier. The Pirates had the first possession but after three plays they were forced to punt. When Stallions got the ball Nick Lux was able to carry it all the way to the Joliette 17 yard line on three carries but the Pirates defense held steady and the Stallions had to punt as well. It looked like the spectators were going to be treated to a tight defensive battle. On the Pirates next possession they executed four plays but were again forced to punt. The Stallions, however, set the tone of the game the next time they got the ball. Faced with a 4-th down and 14 yards to go situation at the Joliette 41 yard line, Alex Houle, the Stallions QB, surprised the defense with a precise pass to Justin McLean streaking down the right side of the field. The #88 receiver caught the ball at the 5-yard line and ran untouched into the end zone. He then followed it up with a successful convert giving St-Lazare a 7-0 lead. The Stallions defense kept the Pirates scoreless until the half-time break with a timely interception and QB sack by Gabriel Cyr. Adam David recovered a fumble while Corey Broom-Kozysen, Nathan Desnoyers, Bruno-Pierre Dandurand and Matthew Bourgoin-Horne made tough tackles. Alex Houle combined with Justin McLean again before the half-time to give the St-Lazare team a 13-0 lead. The game opened up considerably in the second half. While the Joliette Pirates managed to score three touchdowns, the Stallions scored four of their own: three more by Justin McLean and one by Nathan Desnoyers. The highlight of the second half was a 66-yard pass-and-run play by the Houle-McLean duo leading to the third Stallions TD.
