2009 Power Rankings (Tyler)
1. San Diego Padres (10-5)
With a lineup consisting of a three time MVP and the potential of
Cayden, the Padres will be tough to beat. Then with the two of them in
the rotation, they have an ace pitching every game. Their upside is
far higher than any other team in the league and with all parts
running smoothly, the Padres would be the early favorites to win it
all. If Trainor shows up more often than not and Rogan can manage to
keep up his hitting and improve his defense, it could seemingly result
in another championship.
2. Detroit Tigers (8-7)
Without a doubt a solid all around team, but with an inconsistent
offense the Tigers have some question marks. Yes, they have won back
to back championships, but that is more of a credit to their clutch
playoff performances than their regular season showings. Keith is
undoubtedly one of the best all around players in the league, but Tony
will have to limit his walks and they'll need better all around
performances from their role players if they're gonna repeat again.
3. Washington Nationals (7-8)
Questions surround Greg and his pitching eligibilities, but with the
highest scoring offense in the AWL the Nats can beat anyone if they
hit. Tyler will need to improve on the mound, but with his ability to
get on base from the leadoff spot and his flawless D he can make a few
things happen. Then with the power of Greg and Conor behind him in the
lineup, the Nats could surprise a lot of people this season.
4. Oakland A's (6-9)
After a rough 5-10 campaign in 2008, Jimbo was forced to make a few
changes. With the addition of Norrman and Jon Gasparoni, the only
place for the A's to go is up. However with the issue of a 2nd Pitcher
being a constant question, the A's have a lot to prove. They'll
certainly win some games with Jimbo on the mound and as the reigning
AL Silver Slugger, Kyle can keep the offense going with Tom, but
inconsistency could be an issue. Another definite downfall is team
chemistry. Jimbo certainly has high expectations for his team, but
could more draft busts be in the cards?
MVP- Davis Pierce
Silver Slugger- Greg Sullivan
Cy Young- Keith Leatham
Gold Gloves- Tyler Galicia, Jimbo Sarkisian
