"Build It And They Will Grow"
Baseball U started out as a one team organization in the summer of 2006. In its first graduation class of 2007 they had three pitchers drafted and in 2008 had four more selected. This year should bring a few more selections by the MLB Draft this June. While we have had players selected in the MLB draft our bigger picture is getting players into a college that is both an academic as well as athletic fit. In three seasons we have now had 71 players move on to play college baseball. In my opinion as a college coach, there is a fit for everyone. I have watched thousands of college games from teams around the country at all levels and I truly believe there is a fit for every player if they are willing to except the fact that academics must come first when choosing a school. Players and parents must remember they are called “Student-Athletes” and not the other way around.
The Northeast, in particular New Jersey, has become a baseball heaven of late with organizations such as ours providing training by college coaches, pro scouts and current and former pro players. In running our “Scout Team” in the fall composed of potential prospects from 11 various states from MD to Canada I realized that there is plenty of talent up in the New England Region. With that in mind, Pat Vigilio a current scout with the Kansas City Royals has started Baseball U New England. This organization will play in events from MA to NY and the top players from each age group will be able to come together for both college and pro scouts. Pat is someone that was a college coach and won a National Championship in doing so. He understands the various levels of play and what is needed for every player to excel at the next level. Those needs are in the form of instructional practices that give a college touch to a program. While showcasing player’s skills is very important, Baseball U works on improving those skills to better understand what it will take to play at the next level. Baseball U New England now gives players from Delaware to Maine a chance to be a part of what college coaches have called, “An enormous help for college recruiting.” To view and find out more about Baseball U New England please visit www.BaseballUNewEngland.com
