Brants Falter After 5 Run Lead
Last nite in Erindale,the last-place Brants (9-22) scored 8 runs in the 4th inning to take an 8-3 lead. However, the Cardinals (23-9) battled back with 4 runs in the 6th and 6 more in the 7th to win 14-8. Erindale has already clinched 1st place and the coveted Anson Buck trophy.
The 8 run 4th inning was comprised of just 3 hits and 2 walks ..but Erindale booted the ball 5 times. 2B Trevor Woodjets came up with a bases loaded triple to put a stomping on the Cardinals. LF CJ Cabrero and CF Jeff Brunsek each had 2 singles in the 10 hit Brants attack.
Brants starter, Travis Thompson, gave up 8 runs (4 earned) in 5.1 innings pitched. P Carl Soto came in for relief, getting knocked around for 5 runs on 4 hits in 1.2 innings of work. Greg MacDonald pitched the 8th,gave up a homer.
Brants final regular season game is Wednesday, 7:30pm at Nelson Park vs the St Catherines Metros. Their playoffs start this Thursday in Dundas at 7:45pm vs the 6th place finisher, most likely the Brampton Battlecats, whom they beat in 3 out of 4 league games this season. If they win Thursday, they play Saturday at 11am in Milton. A loss on Thursday will result in their 2nd game being played at 1:30pm on Saturday in Milton. 4 teams will advance from this weekend to a double-knockout format next weekend, August 28th-30th in Dundas.
