SWEET LAXIN DATES ANNOUNCED

Bridgewater Lacrosse Announces dates for its

2014 Sweet Laxin Tournament

June 28-29

Bridgewater Lacrosse is the host of the annual Sweet Laxin' Tournament.  We have been running this tournament for the past 7 years and the dates for this year’s tournament have been set for June 28th & 29th.

The tournament takes place at 3 venues, Bridgewater HS, Bridgewater Middle School, and Duke Island Park with a total of 18 fields in action.  Every year this tournament draws in 100-130 teams from all over the Northeast that are made up of players ranging from grade 4 to HS Varsity.

Our continued goal of giving back and improving the community is the underlying purpose of this endeavor.  Bridgewater Lacrosse can proudly say that they were the leading monetary contributor to the Basilone turf field at BRHS, which was the first turf field in Bridgewater.  A second turf field (Turf  2) was added in 2011.  We then moved onto lights, which were installed in 2012.  Our last project was completed in August 2013 by adding bleachers at Turf 2.  All of these projects were funded privately and no tax dollars were utilized whatsoever.

While these projects are key to our HS programs, they benefit ALL of the various boy’s AND girl’s youth sports programs in Bridgewater.  It was not so many years ago that a winter like the one we just experienced would have limited our Spring sports schedule dramatically.  Not only would we have been restricted from or had limited use of the grass fields, their condition would have been terrible and the surface not nearly as safe for our children.

With all this in mind we would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that these projects would not have been possible without a large amount of funding directly from Bridgewater Lacrosse.  Where did the funding come from?  Almost entirely from the profits generated from the Sweet Laxin Tournament.  This was the result of years and years of hard work by a very small handful of volunteers.  Many of these dedicated individuals have now seen their children graduate from BRHS and some are now even out of college!  It is time to bring a new generation of enthusiastic and energetic volunteers to this Bridgewater Lacrosse effort.

For Sweet Laxin’ we not only need some people to step up into organizational roles, but most importantly we need an army of volunteers to help run the event on June 28th & 29th.  The game day tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Parking - just make sure people park in designated spots
  • Field Marshall - this is the easiest! Just sit and watch a few games. When the game is over, report the score in to the main tent.
  • Clean up - super easy too. Just pick up trash and empty the cans as needed.

None of these things are very strenuous, but we need people at each of the 3 venues and we need people both days.

Many people tell us that they like our lacrosse program and its value to the community.  They say they can't volunteer to coach because they never played lacrosse or their weekday job demands will not permit it. Here is a BIG opportunity to help us with the program and it will take only a few hours of your time.  Please don't let a few people bear the burden for this.  The more volunteers we get the easier it is on everyone.  We only need a couple of hours on June 28th & 29th.

FOR NOW, PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR AND SAVE THESE DATES!

As we get closer to the event dates, we will set up a sign-up genius webpage so that you can easily sign up for a time slot.

Thank you in advance for reacting to our request for help and for supporting Bridgewater Lacrossse.
