Mike Schmbach named Head Lacrosse Coach

Center Valley, PA, (October 7, 2011) – DeSales University Athletics Director Scott Coval has announced Mike Schambach as the fourth head coach of the Men's Lacrosse program at DeSales University. Schambach will begin his tenure as a full-time coach immediately and replaces Andrew Geison who had resigned in early August.

Schambach is a graduate of Rutgers University in 2003 where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history. He was a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team at Rutgers and was a key player on the 2003 squad that earned a #7 national ranking and appeared in the NCAA Tournament.

Following graduation, Schambach became the men's lacrosse assistant coach at FDU-Florham where he has spent the last seven years and has been involved in nearly every aspect of the Devil's program in his seven years. In 2009, as the defensive coordinator, he led the team to the NCAA Tournament and a #6 team defense ranking in all of Division III.

Schambach takes over a men's lacrosse program that is just 15 years old having started in the spring of 1997. The Bulldogs earned their first and only MAC playoff appearance in 2009 and have shown some recent success recording four of its top six winning seasons in the last five years.

“My wife and I are honored and thankful to Scott Coval, the search committee, and Father O'Connor in choosing me to lead the Bulldogs,” said Schambach. “DeSales is an excellent Catholic Institution with competitive academics and has a great geographic proximity to the traditional hotbeds for lacrosse. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with such great people and can't wait to meet the team. My goals are to take the lacrosse team to new heights of success in the classroom and lacrosse field.”

“We are extremely excited and pleased to announce Mike Schambach as our new men's lacrosse coach,” Coval stated. “The energy and enthusiasm that Mike brings to the game of lacrosse and to the DSU community will be tremendous assets. His past coaching success and experiences make him an excellent candidate to continue moving the men's lacrosse program in the right direction.”
