In the absence of Ditka, team Vandalay was able to muster another solid team effort and hold off the pesky Above the Rim underdogs. Above the Rim was the aggressor early and led much of the 1st quarter, but as the game progressed into the later stages, they forgot the recipe of success that gained them the lead in the first place. They all but abandoned the team concept and employed a 1on1 offence which was ineffective against the big, veteran-filled Vandalay crew. Vandalay had a clear game plan to exploit the inside mismatches on some of the younger smaller players from Above the Rim and was able to manufacture good shots by making the right passing when the double team came. Daryl Balog began to assert himself as the game went on and finished with 18 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Joel Allen was also a beast, finishing with 24 points as he was the recipient of the vast majority of mismatch scenarios. Graeme Reid was solid in the contest with 17 points and 9 rebounds. On the losing end, Jacob Wojcicki and Theo Parks led the way offensively with 25 and 20 respectively. Desmond McDonald was the chairman of the boards with 16 aggressive rebounds in the match. Above the Rim’s Cinderella journey has come to an end and they put up a great fight for a team that was thrown together via the draft process.
