Colts escape the Heat

July 21, 2013

As the old saying goes, "You play with fire you will get burned". It almost held true when the Colts narrowly escaped the Carolina Heat 14-7 Saturday night in Ramseur, NC. The Colts defense held the Heat offense from scoring with 3 seconds left in the game after two lost fumbles late in the game. The Colts had no trouble scoring early in the game. They put together a balance drive of 65 yards and it was capped off with a eight yard touchdown run from RB Maurice Johnson.

In the Second quarter QB Chase Morris launched a 53 yard misssle to Rashad Fletcher for the score. The defense were making big hits led by LB Raphael King and DE D'Angelo Crueton. The Heat came out in the third quarter and drove 45 yards for a touchdown to close the gap 12-7. At that point the Colts offense were having trouble moving the football. After an interception by the Heat defense which put them on their own three yard line, the Colts defense forced a safety and gave the score 14-7. The Colts offense committed eight turnovers where four were lost fumbles. "We need to do a better job protecting the ball" said Colts head coach Shawn Wood, "We have to get better in practice and correct the small things and continue to do the good things we are doing." The Colts will have a huge test next week when they go to the Hornet's Nest to face the Catawba County Hornets.
