9/25/16 - CENTRALIA MEET RESULTS

CMAC found a way to miss the threatening weather that was looming.  It turned out to be a pretty nice weather day.  Things ran smoothly as far as operations, and we were wrapped up in less than 3 hours from the start of the course walk.  Thanks a ton to everyone that pitched in to volunteer.  It certainly makes a difference for how it flows and keeping the kids on the right path & safe.

There was mixed bag of race results at this meet...  some faster races, some slower races.  It appears that in races that the leader ran faster, the entire race mostly ran faster.  But, in races in which the leader ran slower than usual, then the others adjusted to that as well.  Some times were even a bit more slower, but this is the first course with muddy / soft areas this season.  It reminds us somewhat of the Moberly meet 2 seasons ago.  Going through the mud itself doesn't slow you down as much, but carrying that mud for the whole race does.  It just feels like an extra weight on the feet / shoes that is being carried, and some of that is mental.  This is more of an issue with the 3K as there were more soft spots and they had to carry it for longer.  That is cross country though, every day isn't the same, every course doesn't run exactly the same as some can run long, and some run short.  For instance, the Boonville meet last year, had some blazing times.  We went back later to re-measure, and found out that it ran about 150 or so meters shorter somehow.  Ultimately, you just race though as it is the same course and day for everyone involved.

Do remember this, they are kids and they are not going to be the same people every single day.  Once, Coach McGuire from the Positive Coaching Institute made a very big point that has stuck.  33% of the time, your kid is going to do awesome, 33% of the time, he/she will do about as expected, and 33% of the time they'll come up short of what is expected.  Also, here is another thing to remember:  If you base your race or pace on someone else just because he/she finished ahead of you a week or 2 before (which works sometimes) keep in mind that young man or young woman may not be having their best day.  So, their bad day could slow YOU down.

As far as regionals (11/6) and nationals (11/19), please remember that this is available to every single athlete.  Just as last year, anyone that is enjoying themselves and wants to go can be part of the CMAC All-Stars team.  It is all about the fun experience and teaming up with those that you have been running with and competing with all season.  We have been in contact with the local bowling alley in Evansville, IN to try to secure a good price to take all of the kids on the girls vs. boys bowling activity as well as trying to secure a place for the team meal.  More information will be coming your way.  But, for the time being, here is the link to securing your hotel in Evansville:  http://www.youthcrosscountry.org/hotel.html

We will see you in Fayette on 10/8.  Remember, that will be the next adult run, and it will be a 3K this time.  We have something nice to award each adult finisher.  Just as last time, any monetary donation gets any person age 15 or older registered.  All donations go towards the CMAC All-Stars team.
