2015 SHETLAND HOUSE RULES


 


  • GAME TIME IS 1hr.  GAME IS OVER EXACTLY AT 1HR MARK NO MATTER WHO IS BATTING.

     

  • BATTERS HAVE 5 SWINGS 3 PITCHES AND 2  TEE, NO MORE THAN 5.   YOU MAY PITCH 5 PITCHES, BUT IF BALL IS NOT PUT IN PLAY BATTER IS OUT. 

 

  • BATTED BALLS MUST GO PAST 5FT LINE DRAWN IN FRONT OF BATTERS BOX IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED A LIVE BALL.  IF BALL DOES NOT MAKE IT TO THE 5FT LINE, IT COUNTS AS A FOUL/MISS.

     


  • PITCHING DISTANCE FROM BACK OF HOME PLATE IS 35 FEET.  AT LEAST 1 FOOT MUST REMAIN ON RUBBER WHEN PITCHING

     

  • 1ST OR 3RD BASE COACHES MAY TOUCH AND PUT BATTERS IN BATTING STANCE AS LONG AS THEY MAKE IT QUICK

     

  • COACH DOING THE PITCHING MAY NOT TELL KIDS TO RUN, STOP OR GO BACK TO BASE.  THEY MAY GIVE DIRECTION TO PLAYER BEFORE THE PITCH.  WHEN BATTER HITS THE BALL PITCHING COACH NEEDS TO GET TO FOUL LINE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND NOT BE INVOLVED WITH PLAY

 

ALL BASERUNNERS MUST REMAIN IN CONTACT WITH BASE UNTIL BALL IS PUT IN PLAY BY HITTER.  WARNING WILL BE GIVEN TO COACH BEFORE RUNNERS ARE CALLED OUT. KIDS HOPPING ON BASE COULD BE ALLOWED, BUT WE ENCOURAGE COACHES TO TELL THEM TO BE IN CONTACT WITH BASE

  • COACHES MAY NOT CONTACT RUNNERS WHILE BALL IS IN PLAY AT ALL.  ONLY HIGH FIVES AND HAND SHAKES WHILE BALL IS CALLED DEAD BY UMPIRE.  RESULT OF MAKING CONTACT WITH RUNNER WILL END UP BEING RUNNER OUT AND DEAD BALL.

     

  • BATTERS MAY NOT THROW BAT AWAY AGRESSIVLY.  IF THEY DO IT’S UP TO THE UMPIRE TO ISSUE A WARNING TO THE COACH.  2ND TIME AROUND BATTER COULD BE CALLED OUT.  ALL RUNNERS ON BASE WILL NEED TO GO BACK TO ORIGINAL BASE.  (COACHES NEED TO INSTRUCT KIDS NOT TO THROW THE BAT AFTER THEY SWING)

     

  • PLAY IS DEAD WHEN A DEFENSIVE INFIELDER HAS CONTROL OF THE BALL AND IS WITH IN 5FT OF THE BASE LINE HOLDING THE BALL UP ABOVE HIS/HER SHOULDER OR IF RUNNERS ARE NO LONGER TRYING TO ADVANCE.

     

  • PITCHER MUST HAVE 1 FOOT INSIDE PITCHING CIRCLE.  IF BALL IS FIELDED INSIDE THE CIRCLE AND 1 FOOT IS IN CIRCLE OR LINE, PITCHER MUST THROW BALL TO 1ST   BASE IN ORDER TO RECORD AN OUT.  ANY OTHER BASE IS OPEN FOR PITCHER TO RUN AT AND STEP ON BASE OR TAG RUNNER TO RECORD OUT.  IF BALL IS FIELDED OUTSIDE CIRCLE HE/SHE MAY RUN AND TAG ANY RUNNER, BATTER OR BASE FOR THE OUT.

     

  • TO SPEED UP GAME HAVE YOUR CATCHER READY TO AVOID DELAYING THE GAME OR HAVE BACK UP COACH CATCH WHILE CATCHER IS GETTING READY.  IF PLAYER IS NOT READY HAVE A COACH PLAY CATCHER WHILE PLAYER GET’S GEAR PUT ON.  ASSISTANT COACH WILL BE ALLOWED TO ACOMPANY THEIR CATCHER IF NECESSARY

     

  • 2 COACHES ARE PERMITED ON FIELD DURING DEFENSE.  THEY MAY BE LOCATED BEHIND 2ND BASE POSITION AND SHORT STOP POSITION IN THE OUTFIELD AND MAY NOT PHYSICALLY ASSIST KIDS WITH PLAY.  ONLY GIVE DIRECTION ON WHAT TO DO.

     

  • IF ANY RUNNER PASSES OTHER RUNNER IN FRONT OF HIM/HER THE RUNNER WHO DOES THE PASSING IS RECORDED OUT.
