Bobby Thomson Field Officially Opened By The Man Himself!
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils were honoured to host Scottish-born baseball legend Bobby Thomson at Meadowmill on Saturday the 6th of December for a special field naming ceremony. The club's home ground will now be known as 'Bobby Thomson Field' after the former Major League outfielder.

Remembered most for his series-winning 3-run home run hit for the New York Giants versus the Brooklyn Dodgers in game 3 of the 1951 National League playoffs that became known as the 'shot heard round the world', Bobby was in Scotland for his induction in to the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame at the National Museum of Scotland, held on Friday the 5th.

However, Bobby was thrilled to learn of the Devils' plans to name the diamond at Meadowmill after him and took time out from his hectic weekend schedule of interviews, awards and t.v. spots to visit the country's top ballclub.

Team members presented Bobby with a traditional Scottish quaich, some single malt whiskey and a Devils cap. A plaque honouring Bobby will also be installed at the field upon completion of the permanent backstop. Club GM Nick Clark explained the extent of the work planned to Bobby who was impressed and excited to see baseball developing in the land of his birth. The day closed with Bobby kindly signing some autographs before having to leave for more media appointments.

The Diamond Devils would like to thank Mr. Thomson and his family for honouring the club with their attendance and for agreeing to the field bearing his name. A former team-mate of Bobby's once said of him - 'a nicer man you will never meet'. This statement holds true to this day.
