Your Des Moines HITMEN Pull off the first Win of the year
Your Des Moines HITMEN Pull off the first Win of the year. With a rough start in the 2008 season the HITMEN knew it was time to turn it around. After the 0-5 start and many injuries to the pitching staff the HITMEN went out and picked up Josh “Lick” Lichtensteiger and Kenny “KP” Paulding. Not only do Josh and Kenny bring some new arms to the Bullpen but both have held a bat or two. Lick set a school record at Fairfield Ohio High school with a 0.497 BA and KP lead the Des Moines Metro Conference in Home runs for East High School.
With a healthy return Crooks gets his first win of the year VS the Des Moines Nationals. Pitching well and taking the mound for 7 innings. Eric Abbey, who has been a great surprise this year, gets his first save of the year. Abbey broke his arm on the mound in 2006 as a starting pitcher while pitching for the HITMEN. With lots of rehab and learning to rely more on his off speed pitches Abbey has made a successful return to the Bull pen for the HITMEN.
The bats show up big Sunday and score 13 runs to edge out the Nationals. Some high lights to the start of 2008 have been the big bat of Bryan “The Riot” Gill. With a five game hit streak Gill has put up a HR, 3B, and 3 2B’s for a SLG of 1.000. Dorlan “OZ” Joshway also started out another year with a HR hitting a grand slam against the Newton Reds. Josh “SGT” Graham has also returned his big bat with a 0.556BA and a 0.778 SLG.
The HITMEN look to take two games this Sunday in the double header VS the always speedy DM Monarchs who’s team leads the MID Iowa Baseball league in stolen bases.
