Boys 2014 Season Overview

September 26, 2012

OVERVIEW - Updated for 2012 - 2013 Season

The Dumbarton Lacrosse Club is a Towson Recreation Council program, which is designed to provide an opportunity for Dumbarton Middle School students to compete against other local middle school teams.

We've learned a lot during the past few years, and have worked in partnership to unofficially form the "Baltimore County Middle School Lacrosse League". The objectives of this "league" are simple, to pull together like skilled schools to have friendly competitions, ease scheduling of games, and benefit from combined pricing for expenses. The schools in this "league" include Cockeysville, Dumbarton, Franklin, Hereford, Pikesville, Perry Hall, and Ridgely.

Our intent is to have two teams: an “A” team and a “B” team. We will have try-outs for the teams and two teams of approximately 20 boys per team. Rosters will be determined by evaluations by the coaches and the board members. It is our strong desire to provide space on the rosters for everyone who wants to play and comes out for the teams. However, we must reserve the right to limit roster sizes if the demand exceeds the number of boys who can play on the teams. DLC will hold two open style tryouts with the potential for a third session as an invitation only. Participants are encouraged to attend two tryouts to give the coaches and evaluators the best chance to fairly assess performance. Should your son not be able to attend tryouts, coaches will base their decisions on prior experience and whatever other knowledge they can gather.

SCHEDULE OF PRACTICES/GAMES

Practices will be twice a week during the pre-season. During the season, teams will have one practice a week and one game a week. Practices will start in March (weather permiting.)

All games and practices will be on weekdays after school. There will be no games or practices on weekends. Games and practices should not interfere with your regular rec or club team schedule.

We anticipate that each team will play a schedule of about 8 games over the course of the spring.

All practices and all home games will be at the upper field at Dumbarton, which borders Stevenson Lane. Game schedules will be posted on the website. We anticipate the first games will be held in the last week of March and will continue into the middle of May.

REGISTRATION

DLC registration is available online at our website, www.leaguelineup.com/dumbartonlc. We strongly encourage everyone to register online. If you are unable to register online, we will accept mail-in registrations. Unlike many recreation council programs, we are not able to process online registration payments. Instead, we ask that you mail your registration payment to our treasurer, Christopher Eisenberg. Instructions for mailing your payments is available on the registration form. Again, registration will be limited to no more than forty spots.

The cost of registration for the DLC program for the 2014 season will be approximately $165.
A team orientation meeting will be held in the Dumbarton cafeteria in early February. The purpose is to present a brief overview of the program, answer any questions you may have, and have the boys feel good about joining the program for this season.

U.S. LACROSSE

For insurance reasons, we are requiring all players to be members of US Lacrosse. When registering for the Dumbarton program, you will be required to provide your US Lacrosse membership number. If you are not a US Lacrosse member, you can find membership information and register online from the US Lacrosse link on the website.

WEBSITE / TEXT MESSAGING

We will try to use the website as our primary means of communications, along with email. If anyone has information that needs to be posted, or has pictures that would be of interest to the families in the program, please let us know. We are also looking into the use of text messaging for the 2013 season as last minute notifications can prove vitally important.

WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS

If games/practices must be cancelled or postponed, we will post that information as soon as possible.

Please note that the Dumbarton Lacrosse Club is a recreation council activity. As such, parents are responsible for seeing that their children make it to and from practices/games, and are responsible to ensure that their children are properly taken care of if there is inclement weather or a cancellation. This is neither the coach’s or the recreation council’s responsibility.

UNIFORMS

We will be using the same jerseys and pinnies as last year, and we will be purchasing shorts for all players. The jerseys and pinnies must be returned at the end of the season, but the shorts are included in your registration fee and yours to keep.
