Girls 2016 Overview

(Please read the entire note.)

The Dumbarton Lacrosse Club is a Towson Recreation Council program, which is designed to provide an opportunity for Dumbarton Middle School students to compete against other local middle school teams.

REGISTRATION

Registration will open for players returning from last year's club on January 18th. Registration for new players will open on or about January 25th.

Registration is online at our website, www.dmslax.com.

The cost of registration for the DLC program for the 2016 season will be $175.

We are not able to process online registration payments. Instead, please make your registration payment by check to "Towson Rec Council".  Please mail to the program coordinator, Amy Aloi at 310 Worthington Rd. Towson, MD 21286.

IMPORTANT:Your registration is not complete until payment is received.

U.S. LACROSSE

For insurance reasons, we are requiring all players to be members of US Lacrosse. When registering for the Dumbarton program, you will be required to provide your US Lacrosse membership number. If you are not a US Lacrosse member, you can find membership information and register online from the US Lacrosse link on the website.

TEAMS

We are still finalizing our situation with coaches and scheduling.  If things work out, we will field separate “A” and "B" teams as in past years.  Otherwise, we may have one larger team of which we dress only part of the team for "A" or "B" games.

The A league plays full-check while the B league plays modified check.  Consistent with US Lacrosse age restrictions for full-check, 6th graders are not permitted to play in A games.  For this reason, all 6th graders will be placed on the B team.

Players for A team games will be selected based on evaluations of 7th and 8th graders at the start of the season.  (Players may be moved between teams during the season.)  The teams in the A league are very competitive.  Thus, we will choose the top players from the 7th and 8th grades for this team (i.e., this is not "the 8th grade" team and being in 8th grade does not automatically put you on the A team.) It is our strong desire to provide space for every girl who wants to play. However, we must reserve the right to limit roster size to the first 40 girls that sign up to play.

Players new to Lacrosse:  Due to the limited practice time this may not be the best learning environment for a novice player.

SCHEDULE OF PRACTICES/GAMES

Practices and games will be Tuesdays and Thursdays starting immediately after school and running no later than 5:00.  Practices will start March 1st as weather and field conditions permit.
All practices and all home games will be at the upper field at Dumbarton, which borders Stevenson Lane. Game schedules will be posted on the website. Unfortunately, as in past years, we will need to rely on parent carpools to away games.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT NEEDED

There are a number of roles for parents – please consider signing up for one on the registration form.  These roles include:

1.    Carpool coordinator – Each team needs a parent to coordinate parents to carpool to away games.

2.    Equipment Room Supervisor - We will need a parent to open the equipment room in the morning to allow players to store their equipment safely and in the afternoon for them to retrieve it. This position can be split between two people.

3.    End of Season Party Coordinator

WEBSITE / TEXT MESSAGING

We will try to use the website as our primary means of communications, along with email. If anyone has information that needs to be posted, or has pictures that would be of interest to the families in the program, please let us know. We are also looking into the use of text messaging for the 2016 season as last minute notifications can prove vitally important.

WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS

If games/practices must be cancelled or postponed, we will post that information as soon as possible.

Please note that the Dumbarton Lacrosse Club is a recreation council activity. As such, parents are responsible for seeing that their children make it to and from practices/games, and are responsible to ensure that their children are properly taken care of if there is inclement weather or a cancellation. This is neither the coach’s nor the recreation council’s responsibility.
