ELROSA POWERS PAST GREENWALD TO COMPLETE SEASON SWEEP

ELROSA 10, GREENWALD 4

The Elrosa Saints took one more step to clinching the SCL North regular season title with an impressive 10-4 victory over the Greenwald Cubs Friday night in Elrosa. The Saints plated a run in the first inning and three more in the second inning to give Saints starter Brady Weller an early 4-0 cushion. Weller battled through control issues to keep the Cubs scoreless through three innings. Greenwald finally got to Weller in the fourth inning as they tied the game with four runs. Elrosa responded in their half of the fifth inning when Cody Eichers hammered a pitch into the rhubarb for a two run home run. Austen Hadley pitched fantastic in relief of Weller as the red bearded wild child tossed five scoreless innings to pick up the pitching victory. The Saints took advantage of five Cub errors, five walks, and two hit batsmen combined with twelve hits as they kept the pressure on Greenwald all night. Although the orange and navy left ten men on base, they did manage to execute their small ball offense throughout the game highlighted by two successful squeeze bunts on consecutive pitches. The Saints will be back in action Wednesday night when they host Sauk Centre and will return to SCL action Friday night in Elrosa vs. Meire Grove. Saturday, Elrosa makes the trip to Farming to play the Flames under the lights.
