ELROSA EARNS TRIP TO REGIONS, SETS UP REMATCH WITH REGAL

ELROSA--The Elrosa Saints punched their ticket to the Region 15C tourney with a 5-4 victory over Meire Grove on Saturday and then fell to New Munich 3-2 on Sunday in the SCL North playoff seeding game. The victory over the Grovers allowed the Saints to earn the SCL North's #2 seed and will match them up with Regal to open the Region 15C tourney Friday night in Farming at 8 p.m. The win over the Grovers also matched a franchise mark for wins in a season with 20. The Saints bolstered their roster with the addition of Spring Hill pitcher Austin Schoenberg. Spring Hill's loss to Meire Grove in the elimination game guarantees The Keg will stay in Elrosa for the off-season!

ELROSA--The Silverstreaks scored 3 runs in the first two innings and held on for the SCL North playoff championship victory Sunday afternoon in Elrosa. The Saints put the tying run at third base with one out in the bottom of the 9th inning but consecutive line drive outs to the shortstop ended the threat and the game. Kevin Kuefler had three hits including a triple in the 9th inning and Matt Schmitz contributed two hits as well. Cody Eichers knocked in two runs with a two run single as Aaron Vogt took the loss on the mound. New Munich's Jim Thull picked up his 2nd victory over the Saints in as many weeks as the veteran right hander pitched out of a number of jams to earn the win. The Saints left 8 runners on base and hit into 2 double plays.

ELROSA--Matt Schmitz hit a walk off bases loaded single to complete the come from behind victory Saturday afternoon in Elrosa. Ethan Vogt started on the mound before giving way to Austen Hadley in the 8th inning. The Saints built a 3-0 lead only to see it disappear when the Grovers stormed back for 4 runs in the 5th inning. Schmitz's RBI single in the 7th inning tied the game at 4 and Hadley kept the Grovers in check for the final two innings to set up Schmitz's 9th inning heroics. AJ Hadley walked to lead off the 9th followed by a sacrifice bunt from James Kuefler. Pat Illies was then intentionally walked and Matt Middendorf was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Schmitz. Schmitz then deposited a fastball into the right center field gap to punch the ticket to Regions.
