FARMING--The Legend delivers. With two outs in the bottom of 9th inning, a runner on 2nd base, and the Saints trailing 2-1, Pat Illies launched a two run walk-off home run to give Elrosa a 3-2 victory in the opening round of the Region 15C tourney Friday night in Farming. It was only Illies' 6th at bat of the season and he made it count as he drilled a 1-1 fastball over the right field fence to score Kevin Kuefler and himself as a mob of orange celebrated at home plate. Kool and The Gang would have been proud of the excitement that followed and it capped off a great pitching performance from Elrosa starter Ethan Vogt. Vogt only allowed four hits the entire evening as he kept Regal hitters off balance with an array of pitches and locations to earn the complete game victory. Offensively, Matt Middendorf and AJ Hadley each contributed two hits while James Kuefler added a single and Kevin Kuefler connected for a clutch two out double in the 9th inning. The Saints now await the New Munich-St. Martin winner and will play them Sunday at 11 a.m. in New Munich with a trip to State on the line.
