Aaron Cantu of East L.A. College and Dallas Lopez of West L.A. are two of the best quarterbacks in community college football circles.
Pit them opposite each other and you get an offensive explosion startling even in the normally high-scoring JC ranks.

By the time East L.A. outlasted the host Wildcats, 58-55 on a six-yard touchdown run by Preston Oliver with 1:23 left, the two teams had combined for 113 points, 1,225 yards of total offense and 56 first downs. ELAC had 715 yards of total offense.
The stat lines for Cantu, a sophomore from Schurr High School, and Lopez, a freshman from Downey, were off the charts.

Cantu completed 37 of 50 passes for a career-high 507 yards and six TDs with just one interception.
Lopez was 23 of 36 for 298 yards and four scores and also carried 12 times for 57 yards and two other TDs.

Each had more than their share of help.
For ELAC (3-0), Oliver rushed for 145 yards and three TDs and Robert McCovery, a freshman wideout from L.A. Jordan, caught seven passes for 125 yards and two TDs. Alexander Villalobos caught five passes for 80 yards and two scores, Carlos Portillo caught eight for 67 and one and Willie Udofla caught three for 69 yards and one.

For West L.A. (1-2), Steven Cross carried 17 times for 99 yards and a TD and also caught a scoring pass. Wide receiver Marco Bailey (Crenshaw) caught five passes for 85 yards, Blayr Jimmerson caught five for 83, Rahkeem Holland caught two scoring passes and Will Lacy had one.

Heading into ELAC’s American Mountain Conference opener Saturday against Mt. San Jacinto (3-0), Cantu has completed 97 of 143 passes for 1,169 yards and 10 TDs with two interceptions. He ranks second in the Southern California Football Association at 389.7 yards per game.
Lopez is 78 of 116 for 955 yards and eight TDs and has yet to be intercepted. He is third in the SCFBA at 318.3 yards per game passing.
