A man was apprehended in Hollywood on Wednesday afternoon after running more than a mile on an underground Metro Rail track, authorities said.

"He apparently didn't want to wait for the train," said Deputy Ray Contreras of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which patrols the transit system.

The man ran along the Red Line tracks from the station at Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street to the next station at Hollywood and Western Avenue.

"We were waiting for him," Contreras said of the man, who was facing possible trespassing charges.

The incident, reported shortly after 4 p.m, caused 15-minute delays on the Red Line.
