FIRE CLAIM 5TH AT ELITE 24
The FIRE boys fought valiantly through the losers bracket to reach the final two in their sub-bracket championship only to take a hard loss in the re-match game against the Machomb Mudhens ending their season and stunning the fans and opponents alike.

For what looked like a page out of a comeback tale of major proportion to a greek tragedy in a short time window. Not to be lost in the heartbreak are great wins along the way against Beaver Valley RED , Gladiators Baseball, and a re-match win versus Texas Prospects Americans.

For full results go to http://www.usssa.com/sports/Tournament3.asp?TournamentID=471104 and click on the tourney bracket results.

Going into the final two on Friday the Fire would have to beat Macomb twice. Not only did they beat them in the early game at 10 AM ... the FIRE weathered some rain delays and took a 10-0 lead into the second and absolute championship game of the bracket. The winner would go to the FINAL 4.

The FIRE needed just two more outs to capture the run rule win and re-set for Saturday and a shot at the elusive National Title. Somehow the wheels came off and not only did the game get extended ... the Mudhens came back to beat the FIRE 12-11.

Through all the struggle to add pitching depth ... it was still not enough. Extra inning games and rain delays aside; it just appeared it was not meant to be for the team that most thought was the most talented group
    in the event.

The eventual winners were the California team LAMORINDA COUGARS. Hats off to the Lamorida folks. Lamorinda had beaten the FIRE 5-2 in the very first game of the event during pool play. They truly can claim the TOP SPOT in the NATION.

The Cougars are the ELITE 24 Champions.
