Yankees 2009 Spring MSBL World Champions!!!

October 4, 2009 – 09:30 AM

The Fort Lauderdale Yankees won the Senior Division championship for the fourth time in team history after posting an 11-9, come from behind, win over the Dade champion Miami Blues.

The Yankees scored eight runs in the final three at bats, including five runs in the bottom of the eighth, against, arguably, the greatest pitching staff in SFBL history. Trailing 8-6 in the eighth, two Blues' errors and singles by Pat Vadala and Dan Ojst brought the Yanks to within a run. After James Kent singled to tie the score, the Blues decided to walk Ryan Scott intentionally to load the bases with one out. The move proved disastrous as Kenny Hansley hit the next pitch off the wall in right center field for a two run double, giving the Yanks an 11-9 lead. Chris Basso picked up the win in relief of Jon Sandola. Basso allowed one run in five innings of relief. The Yanks' defense chipped in as Hansley and second baseman Keith Nicoll combined to turn four double plays. Vadala, a late addition to the lineup, led the Pinstripers with three hits. Basso and Hansley added two hits each.
