WHY GAMES ARE CALLED OFF!
When we say that the fields are wet … we are not saying that they are just slippery or we are afraid to have our kids muddy up their uniforms… we could only wish this were the case! When we cancel the games it is because the fields are unusable! Not only do we have to take into consideration that players are likely to twist or break ankles, but the damage that you can do to the fields when wet can ruin them for the entire season.
In between the fields are still completely underwater… the areas that you can go from field to field where you are not stepping in a huge puddle (waterway) are very scare… though we don’t cancel games due to these areas being drenched… it just adds to entire situation. However, we do have to take into effect the grassy parking area… it is this area where the majority of people park. This area is too muddy for cars to drive and park! No one wants to get stuck in the middle of a mudpit!
Though no one can stop the rain... it is very frustrating having to cancel games three days after a rain storm… especially when kids are able to play softball at the new park…
The City of Forney has done great work at Mulberry Park in the last few years... Lights were installed; Scoreboards were put up; two new concession stands have been built; Huge Sun Coverings were erected over the bleachers; Cement Walkways between the fields; Gravel Walking Path npw surrounds the park; extended cement parking area near Warren Middle School was added... the park is a much different place than it was 4 years ago!
Yes, work needs to be done at Mulberry Park in order to fix the drainage situation and grass parking… your patience, your input, your cooperation, your help is needed… please continue to submit emails with legitimate concerns and suggestions... together we can make a difference for the children of Forney. Thank you
