PITCHING MOUNDS AT MULBERRY PARK
For years, the Pitching Mounds at Mulberry Park have been very difficult to maintain. The droughts would dry up the dirt and once a divit or hole was created in the Diamond Pro dirt, it would never fill properly... just about everyone was disappointed and complained about the Pitching Mound situation.
In attempt to rectify the situation and supply the Forney teams with mounds that would not deteriorate throughout the season and cause a maintenance nightmare, the Forney Youth Baseball Association decided to purchase artificial mounds. The organization purchased mounds for Fields #4, #7, #8, #9 and #10 at nearly $1000 apiece! These mounds (Athletic Connection #MP3002) were purchased at the Mesquite Sports Center in Mesquite, TX.
There have been numerous complaints saying that the mounds are facing the wrong way... that they are backwards! The FYBA Executive Board has indeed researched this inquiry... and after contacting the actual manuafacturer (Athetic Connection), this particular model (MP3002) is made to set with the shorter side facing home plate. (See the photo above that was taken off the website). Though many other models show the mounds with the long side facing home plate, this model (once again) was not designed that way. These mounds, however, are designed for fields that are flat and the majority of the fields at Mulberry Park are crowned to the pitching mounds.
Thank you for your inquiries and your concern... there is no problem with asking questions. We will be doing much work in the off season to try to make further improvements to the mounds and fields. Thank you.
