NEUTRONS FORTUNATE AGAINST CHEETAH GIRLS
In the end the score was 1-0, but the Neutrons were very fortunate to come away with this win. Since the two teams scrimmaged several times during Wednesday practices, they knew each other all too well. And the well-coached Cheetah Girls pounded the ball at the Neutrons' goal the entire first half with a relentless attack. Using their speed advantage, the Cheetah Girls repeated beat the Neutrons to balls and never hesitated on their throw-ins to get the ball quickly back into play. Fortunately, the defense rose to each challenge and kept the game scoreless through the first half despite the Cheetah Girls domination.
"It was clear who was dominating," noted Coach Robert. "Our girls just started out flat and lacked energy." But just as luck seemed to work against the Neutrons a few weeks ago against the Dixon Chili Peppers, this week luck seemed to favor the Neutrons. The Neutrons, increasing their energy on the field in the second half (maybe it was the halftime snack that did the trick), were able to make a few runs at the Cheetah Girls' goal. Despite taking only four shots the whole game, the Neutrons managed to score in the tenth minute of the second half. Rebecca, dribbling her way through defenders on the left side, at one point appeared trapped along the endline. She spun back around the defender and found herself just five feet outside the left post along the endline. Then from point-blank range she chipped a shot in from a very difficult angle just over the goalie's reach and inside the left post. She definitely threaded that needle! From there it was a nail-biter as the defense held together with key plays by Aliyah, Samaria, and Hailey. The goalies (Jaskiran, Maci, Sophia, and Sami) were also rock solid throughout the game gathering in everything the Cheetahs shot at them.
But the highlight of the game had to be the ice cream that Marwan (Leann's dad) treated everyone to after the game!
