2009 11U Annapolis Open Highlights
With victories over Severna Park and Broadneck, the Wildcats won their round robin division and advanced to the semi-finals of the Annapolis Open this weekend.
Against Severna Park on Friday night, Chris Ford led the way in a 10-4 victory. Chris was 3-3 with a double and 2 runs batted in. Mason McElhaney contributed with a single, two walks and an rbi. Robert Colvin, Tyler Schmidtz and Brett Puhl also drove in runs for the Wildcats.
Saturday morning the Wildcats clinched the Division crown with a 12-3 victory over Broadneck. The Wildcats broke open a 2-2 tie in the top of the 4th with 8 runs after the first two batters in the inning were retired. Tyler Schmidtz got the rally started with a single, followed by a Chris Ford walk and Mason McElhaney getting hit by the pitch (McElhaney was hit 3 times in the contest). Consecutive singles by Brett Puhl, Ryan Kendig and Calvin Wood kept the rally going and paved the way to the win.
Kendig finished the game with 2 hits and 3 rbi, while Wood (2 rbi) and Puhl (2 rbi) also had multiple hit games. Ford and Andrew Cassard also drove in runs for the Wildcats, while pitchers David Williams, Robert Colvin and Peyton Hudlow limited Broadneck to 1 earned run.
Having wrapped up the division in the morning, the Wildcats faced Pasadena Saturday afternoon. Pasadena scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out an 8-7 victory. Highlights for the Wildcats included solid pitching efforts from Calvin Wood, Ryan Kendig, Tyler Schmidtz, Brady Ward and Peyton Hudlow.
In the semifinals, the Wildcats came up short against a solid GGB squad 8-3. Robert Colvin led the Wildcat effort with a pair of doubles and 3 strong innings of pitching. Mason McElhaney also contributed two singles and two rbi, while Chris Ford had a pair of hits. On defense, Ford turned a would-be sacrifice fly into a double play with a strong throw to catcher Calvin Wood to nail the GGB runner at the plate. However, a 4-run sixth inning rally from GGB put the game away for the Patriots.
