2009 Flag Day Festival....Sports at the Beach
The Wildcats made their annual trek to Sports at the Beach in Georgetown, DE the weekend of June 13th. Competing in the 11U Flag Day Festival, the Wildcats finished with a 2-2 record and a 5th place finish.

In game 1 of Saturday's pool play, the Wildcats faced a Staten Island Cadets team whom they defeated in last year's Sandcastle Open semifinals. This year's result was no different as the Wildcats prevailed 7-4.

Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, the Wildcats posted 3 runs to take the lead for good. After Mason McElhaney reached on an error, a Chris Ford double and Ryan Kendig single plated GORC's first run. Then, with two outs, Brett Puhl delivered the biggest hit of the game with a two-run single. Brett later drew a walk with the bases loaded, giving him 3 RBI in the contest. Brady Ward, Robert Colvin and David Williams also drove in runs for the Wildcats.

In Saturday's second game, the Wildcats did not fare as well falling to the Tri State Arsenal 13-1. Nine walks and one hit batter put too many Arsenal runners on base, and Wildcat batters could only muster 5 hits of their own.

Sunday's first round elimination game began as an old fashioned pitchers duel. David retired the first 9 batters he faced, while the South Jersey Young Guns pitcher nearly matched him. However, in the bottom of the third inning, GORC exploded for 6 runs. Three of those runs were generated by Wildcat speed as Ryan, Calvin Wood and Andrew Cassard all scored from third on wild pitches. Andrew, Robert and David also contributed RBI singles, while Brady Ward recorded the only GORC extra base hit of the game with a double. Meanwhile, David completed his best pitching performance of the year, going 4 innings without allowing a base hit. A two-out walk in the top of the 4th accounted for the only Young Gun batter to reach base against him. Robert and Peyton Hudlow, closed out the last two innings of the 6-3 Wildcat victory.

In the quarterfinals, the Wildcats came up short against eventual tournament champion Indian Mills 9-6. Trailing 6-0 after three innings, the Wildcats showed great determination, but their late rally wasn't enough. In the game, Peyton and Robert each delivered a pair of singles and drove in a run. Chris drove in two runs as well.
