ABOUT US
The Xtreme Speed Track Club was founded by our head coach Rob Thomas. Coach Rob recognized a number of talented athletes in the South King County area however the closest competitive track club was over 20 miles away in Seattle. Coach Rob, remembering the fun he had as a youth and collegiate athlete, felt he needed to step up and provide opportunity to the kids in his community. In 2010, with the help of his coaching colleagues and in partnership with the USATF the Xtreme Speed Track Club was born.
Our coaches consist of high school coaches, former college-level athletes, current college athletes and a pediatric nurse. These individuals volunteer their time and invest their private funds, in addition to fundraising efforts made by the Xtreme Speed Booster Club, to help make the track club a success. Through training of body conditioning, teamwork, endurance, speed training and nutritional counseling the Xtreme Speed Athletes prepare year-round for the opportunity to compete yearly at the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals.
The Xtreme Speed Track Club is the only track club available in the eastern South King County area that provides training for sprinters hurdlers and jumpers. Our athletes, ages 6 to 18, are from the neighboring areas of Auburn, Kent, Renton, Puyallup and Federal Way. The majority of these areas are not supported by the Boys and Girls Club so at the end of the school year when intramural and interscholastic sports have ended, many of these talented athletes are spending their time on the couch playing video games or watching TV and not productively doing something.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “children and youth are more inactive than ever with the widespread availability of television, videos, computers, and video games. These children are less likely to participate in vigorous physical activity.” By promoting regular physical activity, at least 60 minutes per day, our track club gives these kids not only the ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle, fighting childhood obesity through consistent exercise and nutrition counseling, but also builds the ability to effectively interact with kids of various ages, backgrounds, races and social status while supporting each other as a team. Our coaches strive to provide a positive, encouraging training environment and take the time to mentor the athletes both on and off the field encouraging success both in academics and athletics.
