Getting noticed--Part 2

**StudentSportsSoftball.com sent questions out to thousands of softball players all over the country asking what they were doing to market themselves to colleges.

It is important to get your name out there to get noticed and we wanted to know how all the athletes were getting it done. Some post their information on websites; others send coaches videos and bios. This is the second of a series of answers from the players!

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
When I was in the process of marketing myself to colleges I really did a lot. I would write letters and send them all out to a large amount of colleges I was interested in along with some profiles of mine and schedules. Then as soon as I would get a response as a letter or email I made sure I replied ASAP. I would invite the coaches to my games and send them my game times. Then I would plan unofficials and attend camps. Those helping with me to narrow down my list. Thanks to all the teachings and hard work of mine and my coaches it paid off, and I've recently verballed to Ohio St.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
In order to get noticed by college coaches I play in college exposure tournaments during the summer and fall and try my hardest to let my glove and bat do their own talking.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
I committed to a well-known traveling summer team, the Midland Magic, which is coached by Nic Nelson and Dale Shelton. That way I would be seen at very competitive tournaments, including 16 and under Nationals, Hall of Fame, and also in Rising Stars tournaments in St. Louis and Ft. Lauderdale. When I'm not traveling with the team I try to go to as many college camps as possible. This is a great way to be seen by coaches on their own campus in smaller groups. They might not have had time to see you in a game during your schedule but they will have time to watch you at their camp. Work hard, keep a great attitude, and you might end up being considered for a position on the team.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
I know that coaches can be watching us at any time so I really try to conduct myself in the best possible manner on AND off the field. First impressions are a big way to making good impact on coaches at games.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
One of the main things I do is e-mail and write coaches of schools I am interested in. I try to keep them updated with how I do at tournaments, what camps and training I am doing and other important information. Our team also has a website with a profile page for each girl. Before we go to any showcase, I contact coaches and let them know I will be there, when we are playing, etc. I also try to go to college camps and clinics to meet the coaches, let them see me, etc. I also sent skills DVD's to colleges I am interested in.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
Well I am signed already to the University of North Florida but when I was going through the recruiting process I found it important to pick a travel team that would get me the most looks as possible. I made sure that I was well practiced before every tournament and I paid attention to how I acted on and off the field.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
The way I am marketing myself is first, by keeping my grades up they are the most important, I send letters to the schools that I am interested in, I also send update postcards with schedules and game times, I have picked several camps that I am very interested in the school so I go spring and fall to their camps. I also email updates and schedule changes. I also have my profile on softballshowcase.com, and Texasaces.com.

What are you doing to market yourself and get noticed by college coaches?
To market myself, I write to Colleges that I am interested in attending. I give them a little info on my past accomplishments in sports, give them my SPARQ rating, and things like that. I also write them to wish them Happy Holidays, and to just keep in touch. I also make sure to give them my schedule, and I try to attend the College Camps/Clinics. It is impossible to attend them all. So I attend the ones that work in my schedule. Its a great way for the Coach to see your skills, while also meeting the Coach and seeing the College, and getting a feel for them both.
