Superstitious Athletes
We all know that the hard work and effort that athletes put into their game is what makes them succeed…Or does it?
We sent out questions to thousands of softball players all over the country asking them what their superstitions were. Although some admitted that they do not believe in such practices, the majority was willing to share their special rituals they go through before entering a game. Maybe it doesn't help, but it couldn't hurt right?

Are you superstitious when you play? What are your superstitions?
When I play I will definitely say I have superstitions about me. It was much worse when I was younger but I think I have grown to be more confident of my playing whether the left sock is on the left foot or not. However, I still carry superstitions about me, of course! While getting ready to step into the batter's box, I MUST at least get one swing in, knock the dirt off my cleats, hit the plate three times and point towards the field. If not... Oh no! BAD!!

Are you superstitious when you play? What are your superstitions?
Haha. Yes, I have my superstitions when I play. I cannot look at the batter's number whenever I pitch. If I see their number, I am sure that they will get a hit. Also, I have to put my uniform on in the same order before every game, otherwise I am positive that I will have an awful game. I guess those were just things that I've done since I was little... they might sound crazy, but hey-whatever works, right?

Are you superstitious when you play? What are your superstitions?
Yes, I'm very superstitious. I always wear sunglasses, especially when I pitch. I always listen to music before I play, and I tell myself that I am better than the other team, I don't need to blow it by them but I need to move the ball around. Whenever I get to 3 balls on a batter, I go to the back of the circle and just bounce to relax myself. Whenever I get 2 strikes on a batter, I always touch my forehead to tell myself to be smart. I have a handshake with my catcher that we do only when I pitch. My 2nd baseman and I have a certain way we smack gloves/hands. I always clean my bat off while I'm getting a sign from my coach when I hit.

I'm a very superstitious person; I never clean up any of the equipment until the game is over, not even if we're up by ten runs or anything.

Oh I am superstitious! I dont care who you are but you DO NOT mess up the chalk before a game... Its like an unwritten law in the world of softball and baseball.
