Hustle Season Wrap-Up by Kerry Berg
Kerry delivered a teary poem at the Hustle end of the year party. Thank you for the heart warming memory Kerry!
By Kerry Berg
Come listen to a story about Lady Hustle.
A dang good coach, Teresa, with a band of Phantom Players,
joins up other players from Livermore, Danville and Pleasanton.
Coach Ron joins the staff.
They moved to Double Diamond and visited Amador Valley High School regularly.
They trained. They did push-ups, situps, drills and mental conditioning.
They played in the cold. They played in the rain and they played in the heat.
Coach Julie came about and added a BIG HUSTLE cheer!
They lost a few but won Big and Often.
This rookie collection of players became a Force.
Other coaches, teams and officials started tipping their hats to the Lady Hustle.
Each player added their own special talent.
Cynthia became a Slapper with memorable dives in the dirt back to base.
Niki the was the one man running machine in centerfield.
B, BONK, held second base firm and seemed to have a Guardian Angel at bat.
NuNu stole more bases and left/right caught runners trying to steal base.
Katie Manion played every position and was always a work horse.
KK delivered the spin and levitating pitches like a magician.
Nicole made those amazing dives at 3rd and short stop and delivered on hits.
Jess the fearless gymnast did the splits and had rubber band arms catching.
Big Sky Montana threw it fast and hard while delivering on RBIs.
Caylee executed at bat and flashed that million dollar smile.
Lexi was the dirt eater playing short stop.
LuLu showed us that being young means nothing when you play with intensity, focus and heart - robbing the other team of big hits.
They were supported by a Merry Band of Mom's and Dad's.
Will the Gatorade Man.
Denise kept us cool with the Pop-Up.
The Heller's and McKeehan's threw us a heck of big bash team party.
Ann lugged the water cooler.
Kathy did cartwheels and whistles.
Jeff was the shutterbug.
Craig and Becky gave us many great Bar-B-Que moments at the Hustle Mobile.
John and Inga kept the girls nourished with peanut butter/jelly sandwiches and trial mix.
Tailgate Roy kept Subway in business.
And Cheerleader Melinda taught us the 4-3-2-1 Clap.
But the story starts with the commitment of the coaches.
Teresa, Ron and Julie on behalf of the Players and parents, thanks for presenting our girls
- with opportunity
- teaching them respectful play and hardwork
- that eating properly and often is important
- that hydrating keeps their bodies cool
But most of all, for teaching them respect for themselves and others and helping them to make "good" choices.
Thanks for a GREAT year
