Just one goal between bantam girls and gold

Just a single goal separated the Sudbury Bantam "B" Lady Wolves and a championship banner as the locals made it all the way through to the gold medal encounter of the Orangeville Sweetheart Tournament last weekend.

Three straight wins paved the way to the finals before the Lady Wolves were felled 1-0 by the Aurora Tigers in a battle of two very well-matched teams. The Sudbury girls kicked things off Friday night, dousing the Clarington Flames 4-1 on goals from Kamryn Hammell, Jacinta Eashkakogan, Allie Miller and Abigail Lanteigne.

The locals would get their first taste of the eventual opponents in the grand finale, squeezing past Aurora 1-0 in preliminary round play as Jessica Ouimet recorded the shutout, with Katelyn Lee burying the game-winning goal.

It was cruise control time come Sunday morning as the Lady Wolves bounced the host Orangeville Tigers 7-0, with Eshkakogan and Raeleigh Chartier pacing the attack with two goals each, while Jess Trottier followed directly in the footsteps of her goaltending partner between the pipes, extending the shutout streak to two full games.

Rounding out the Sudbury scoring were Miller, Lanteigne and Kirstin Fahey. The rematch with the Tigers featured a solitary goal from Zoe Carson less than two minutes into the game, with the snipe standing as the only tally that was needed for Aurora.

The balance of the Bantam "B" Lady Wolves roster includes Cecilia Anderson, Sydney Burton, Carley Burton, Julia Hayes, Emma Dyer, Katelyn Guzzo, Gabriella Elizabeth Moggy and Abby Soehner.

Heading up the team staff are head coach Clay Burton, assistant coaches Gene Guzzo and J.J. Anderson, manager Randy Ouimet and team trainer Sara Burnside.https://www.sudburysports.com/?content=articles.php&articleId=8584
