The 2010 13u Long Island Breakers won the Sports at the Beach Fall Classic Tournament Championship this past weekend by going 5-0 in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The Breakers are looking at the fall season not as an end of another long youth baseball season, but as a new beginning, as the team continues to re-shape it's roster and build toward the 2010 season.
This weekend, each of the boys did something to help the team win the championship, as the club moved to a record of 48-3 in tournament games this season. Newcomers Billy Thomas, Chris DiAngelo, and Peter Caravousanos all contributed in big ways this weekend to support the cause. Billy Thomas had several hits in the tournament, but went 2 for 2 with a 2-run double and a run scored in the Championship Game. He stole a few bases and brought an element of speed to the club, something which the club sorely lacked at times this season. Chris DiAngelo has several hits as well, but none bigger than his 280 foot 3-run blast to left center to put the Lehigh Yankee game out of reach. Chris played well defensively at 3rd and at 1st over the weekend as well. Peter Caravousanos had several big hits including a run scoring single to push the lead to 3-0 over Team New Era in the Championship Game. Peter made several good defensive plays and contributed with a few scoreless innings on the mound.
All of the other Breaker players contributed as well in the win as the team pitched excellent, throwing 7 different kids in the tournament and allowing 4 runs in 5 games. Matthew Lucarelli, Michael Burghardt, Brett "Bubba" Pisaneschi, Tyler Echeverria and Patrick Bryant all had wins on the mound. Patrick Bryant tossed a 5 inning no-hitter in the Championship Game, earning MVP honors. Offensively, all of the kids had hits in the tournament as Gazzola (275 - 280 foot HR) and Burghardt (295 - 300 foot HR) also went deep. Patrick Bryant added a long 2-run double in the semi-final win over the Kennett Kings. Ernie Geraci, Tyler Echeverria, Matthew Lucarelli, and Richie Trifaro added a few hits a piece as well.
