Maryland RBI and Southern HS senior catcher Billy Albaugh has committed to play baseball at Prince George's Community College

Billy Albaugh plans on spending his senior season helping the Southern HS Bulldogs defend their 2014 state championship. He doesn’t plan on spending it trying to make a decision about his college plans. That was taken care of this week.

Albaugh has decided to play for the Prince George's Community College Owls as a College Freshmen. Albaugh also considered York College and Millersville University in PA, and had offers from Delaware Tech and the College of Southern Maryland.

“Coach Buddy Foster at PG has been recruiting me since I was a sophomore at Northern High School. I’ve watched the improvements in their Baseball program over the last couple of years and played against a bunch of their guys this past summer. They won the NJCAA Division 20 playoffs and went to Texas for the World Series last season. I've visited and worked out with a bunch of programs, but I just felt at home with the Owls” Albaugh said.

Albaugh played the 2012 HS season at 3rd base for Northern and moved behind the plate for the 2013 season. He finished the 2013 HS season as one of the area’s top catchers, batting .356 in 20 games with 15 runs, 13 RBIs and only 2 strike outs. He was named a MSABC Futures, won All-County 1st team for a second year and was All-Conference honorable mention. He was also Second Team Academic All-Conference and made a name for himself with the AAU organization, as he named Maryland AAU State Outstanding Player in 2014 and earned AAU National Underclassmen All-Star honors in 2013. His a nominee for 2015 MSABC Preseason All-State.

After the high school season ended, Albaugh transitioned immediately into 19U and 23U wood bat travel with Maryland RBI and as a guest player for Maryland Arsenal. In 49 travel games May-November, he hit .460 in 131 at-bats with only 2 strike outs.

Albaugh credits the Maryland RBI team and the Northern Baseball program run by Bobby Gibbons for the opportunities that put him in position to play in college. “My coaches have supported me year round to be a better leader and develop the full range of skills needed to advance in Baseball. The years have flown by and I'm looking forward to playing at the next level.”

“Billy will fit in well with Coach Foster and the assistants he has," said Maryland RBI manager Mike Graham. "He will be an impact player in Division 20 and the coaches will be very pleased with what they’ll get from him. Billy has super hands, is versatile and crushes the ball.

"He really turned it up this past year, especially in the weight room. He’s put on a lot of muscle and the entire baseball community is looking for big things out of him in the future. Billy has told me he plans to work hard in his 2 seasons with the Owls and use the results as a resume to open doors at 4 year colleges for his Junior and Senior years,” Coach Graham added.
