Earlier this year Matt Varney, a great teammate, opponent and Madison baseball ambassador unexpectedly died.  Matt's passion for the game of baseball was evident every time he put on a uniform, whether he was playing, umping or coaching.  Those who played with Matt know you couldn't ask for a better teammate, and if you were never his teammate, you still realized he was a special person who truly loved the game.  I was privileged with being Matt's teammate for over 10 years, and will forever miss seeing his smiling face and  positive attitude at the ballpark.   That is why I started this campaign.  Even though Matt won't be with us in person at the field, his spirit will always be with us.  My goal is to raise as much money as possible so that we can provide a donation in Matt's name to local youth baseball organizations that support the baseball passion we all share, and always see Matt's smiling face at the "yard" with a memorial plaque.

The fundraising campaign will run from now until April 1, 2018.   The MSBL of Southern Wisconsin and I would like to present the Memorial Gift early in the 2018 season.  We will announce the date, once the campaign is concluded.
