Skrats Finish Perfect Home Season in Sherwood
The Renville County Muskrats (36-3) accomplished something for the first time in their history on Thursday night in Sherwood. That was finishing off a perfect regular season at home. The Muskrats went 17-0 at their home parks with 7 of those wins in Sherwood. Their were 4 apiece in Lansford and Mohall and 2 in Kenmare. RC also ran their home winning streak to 21 games dating back to last season.
As for the game itself in started out in a shootout fashion. Velva Post 39 scored 4 runs in the top of the first getting three two out hits. Renville answered in the bottom half with three of their own on two 2-out hits. The difference would come in the second inning. Velva came back with 1-run on another two-out hit. Renville answered that with 10 runs of their own, with many big hits and also aided by some Velva errors. The nine inning tilt would settle down from there finishing up at 16-8 in favor of the Skrats.
RC pounded out 13 hits over the game being led by Brady Hefter's 4-5 effort. Hefter also scored 3 runs and drove three others in. Frank Kopa homered for the 2nd time in as many days, his 6th of the season. Kopa went 2-4 and drove in 5. Jarrid Helming and Jacob Costello each had 2-4 days as well.
On the hill Caleb Costello (7-0) got off to a bit of a rough start recording the win. He settled in nicely pitching with the lead after the second inning Costello got through the next 3 innings only facing 11 hitters. Caleb also got off to a quick start in the 6th but left with bases loaded and 2 outs. Micah Bender would enter the game and walk the first two men he faced. Much like Costello, Bender settled in seeing only 13 men come to the plate in his 3 1/3 innings.
Next Up
Renville County finished up their regular season with the win. The Skrats were 36-3 and 12-0 in Section 6. They were 17-0 at home, 13-1 at visiting fields and 6-2 in weekend tournaments. The Skrats will be off until next Wednesday night where the Section tournament will start in Watford City. RC will be awaiting the winner of the #4 vs. #5 game. The pairings or game times have not yet been determined.
