Preventive Measures
Parents,
With all of the viruses going around I wanted to address some things we can do to help prevent spreading things among ourselves. The following things are practiced by the wrestling team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Their doctors feel that these steps (1 and 2) help prevent spreading illnesses. They also help prevent staph infection. Although not a fool proof method, these doctors feel that these are solid preventative measures. Staph is found in our nasal cavities and they feel that taking these simple steps will help curb the spread of a potential problem.
1 - at least 500mg of vitamin C per day. I am recommending more. I use a product called Emergen-C, which can be found at Target, Walgreen's, CVS and sometimes Wal-Mart. The box comes with 36 packets that is mixed with water. Take 1 packet in the morning and if prone to catching stuff, take another in the afternoon. Emergen-C is roughly $9 a box.
2 - Put a little Neosporin on a Q-tip and swab the inside of the nostril. Just a little should be sufficient, this helps to control the staph inside all of our nostrils.
3 - Keep Lamisil on hand; if you see anything that may be ringworm, put it on the spot immediately. Don't wait and see if it grows.
4 - Take a shower every morning and as soon as you get home from practice!!! Make sure you soap up and let the soap stay on for a minute. Wash your entire body in Selsun Blue twice a week.
5 - Wash all clothing after wearing! Do not wear any shorts or shirts more than once. Make sure that all knee pads, headgear, etc. are washed at least once a week.
I will continue to bleach our mats daily and spray the walls weekly. These steps should help to control any issues.
God Bless
