    Fall 2008

*For those who cannot make tryouts, you have a few options: you can arrange for us to see you play prior to tryouts and you can pay the full season tuition prior to tryouts and have us place you on a team where we see fit. No refunds after you see which team you've made. Or, you arrange for us to see you play prior to tryouts and you can wait until tryouts are over and if there are any spots left after we've made the teams, you can be placed on one. Your season tuition would be due after.

We begin the fall season in September. We have tryouts a month before the season begins because it takes a month for uniforms to come in. The uniform everyone will wear is the uniform that was purchased during the spring 2006 season and has been worn since then. Anyone without that uniform must purchase it for the fall season. We will wear this uniform for the next few seasons. Anyone who already has the uniform - you do not need to purchase a new one.

Players MUST be on a team of their age and if they want to be on an older team in addition to their own age team, they may tryout for that as well. For example, if a 6th grader wants to also play on a 7th/8th grade team, she must play on both the 6th grade team and the 7th and 8th grade team and pay both tuitions. She must also tryout for both teams. You may play on as many Blast fall teams as you want.

All parents of players are required to sign a parent behavior contract that will be enforced at every game and practice.

We have a policy for players who tryout for teams and quit - if you tryout for a team, make the team, and then opt not to play after the roster is posted, you are suspended from trying out for any Blast teams during the following season. This is to prevent people from trying out just to see if they can make it - we spend a lot of time making the teams and it's very disruptive once people quit.

Playing time is based on attendance, ability, athleticism, effort. However, in the fall we take about 8 players on each team to make sure everyone gets a good amount of playing time. We add more players to the roster if there is someone on the team who plays an additional sport in the fall because there are chances they will miss due to other practices, games, etc.

    PRACTICES
The fall has less of a commitment than the spring season, for those who are familiar with the commitment of the travel teams in the spring season. For the fall, we have 1 game a week and 1 practice a week. There are also 1-2 optional practices a week. For 8th grade and under teams, we only have 1 practice for the first half of the season because winter teams (school, travel, cyo, etc.) usually begin practice mid-October/early November. However, the high school teams continue practice right up until high school tryouts. For NJ, high school tryouts are the day after Thanksgiving.

All coaches go through a 9-step screening process and have the qualifications to coach. All coaches and staff are volunteers; this is a non-profit organization. If you know the coaches in the program and you have a coach in mind that you want to play for, you can write that name on your your registration form. There is no guarantee you will end up on the team of that coach.

    GAMES
Teams for the fall are formed based on GRADE because the leagues we play in have grade brackets (this is different from the spring when we form teams based on age)... The leagues the 8th grade and under teams participate in are IYB in Fairlawn (games are normally on Sundays, but that is not guaranteed), Hoop Dreamz in Hillsdale (game days TBA), or the North Stars League in Pequannock/Wanaque/Wayne (game days TBA). All high school teams play in the West Orange League (games are on Sundays) - the leagues for each team are chosen after forming the teams - game days depend on whatever day the league chooses.

    TUITION
High School Teams - NO TUITION. The only thing you need to purchase is your uniform if you do not already have one. The high school teams are sponsored.

For 8th grade and under players: approximate tuition costs (If you don't have a Blast uniform, which is the new uniform majority of the players wore during spring 2006 season - please add $140 to your tuition for the uniform. This uniform will be worn for the next several seasons, you do not need to order a new one if you already have this uniform - uniform includes a shooting shirt, white jersey, black jersey, and shorts): for teams with 8 players: $225, teams with 9 players: $205, teams with 10 players: $189, teams with 11 players: $177... Practice rental costs are figured into the tuition of every team. We try to look for gyms that we can rent from for free. If we are able to do so, the remaining tuition will be refunded back to you at the end of the season. This past spring season we were able to refund money back to every team due to practice rental money we did not use.

Reggie Malz and Yumi Castro are in charge of fundraising for the whole program this fall season. Please contact them to find out information.

Tentative Potential Teams/Coaches for Fall... If there are enough players for additional teams at each level, we will definitely consider forming those teams.

For a 7th grade Verona based team please contact Coach Dan Flannery: Dan.Flannery@ritzcarlton.com

[if you are a 3rd or 4th grader interested in playing, please come to the 5th and 6th grade tryouts. There is a once a week clinic run for 3rd and 4th graders)
