Braves hold off Pirates in overtime

POLSON -- With his team needing a spark, Sam Elliott found a groove at the 3-point line -- and dashed Polson's hopes of a Class AA coup in the process.

Kalispell Flathead's 6-foot-5 junior drilled a game-tying three in the final minute of regulation and then hit on two more in overtime to lift the Braves to the 65-57 win over Class A Polson.

Elliott's 3-pointer with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter knotted the score at 50-50 and Polson misfired on a 7-footer on the other end that could have won it. Then Elliott went back to work in the extra period.

"He’s got a pretty good looking shot, but he hadn’t been shooting em from out there," Polson coach Randy Kelley said of Elliott, who had just the three triples on the night.

He led all scorers with 20 points. The Polson pair of Tanner Wilson and Jeremiah North Piegan each scored 16 for the home Pirates (1-3), who played both Kalispell Class AA schools close this week in narrow loses.
