USSSA POINT AND POWER RATING SYSTEM

EARNING POINTS

Teams earn points while placing in USSSA Tournaments.  Teams accumulate points throughout the season.  These points are used to seed teams in the State Tournament and World Series.  The more tournaments a team participates in and the higher they place, the better seed for the State Tournament and World Series.  Teams may also receive points for participating in USSSA Sanctioned Leagues.

DOUBLE POINTS WEEKENDS

Indiana USSSA will offer tournaments where teams can double their points for placing.  TBA

STATE QUALIFYING TOURNAMENTS

Teams that participate in State Qualifiers automatically qualify to participate in the Indiana USSSA State Tournament.  This is the largest classified state tournament in Indiana.  Over 130 teams participated in this event in 2015.

NIT TOURNAMENTS

These tournaments are the top of the line in USSSA Tournaments.  These tournaments usually draw more teams from surrounding states.  These tournaments can award berths to additional events as well as awarding 2X the points of regular qualifying tournaments.

Power Rating System

The formula was designed in 1998 by one of USSSA/ISTS's top computer master minds. The system was designed to fairly rank teams (of the same class) that have not played near the same number of games.

The exact formula will not be disclosed in fear of a competitors copying or misuse.

The system uses

  1. Teams winning percentage

  2. Teams beaten winning percentage

  3. Teams lost to winning percentage

  4. Number of games played

  5. Number of wins and loses

The system does not use

  1. Game played between teams of different class

  2. Score of game

  3. Head to Head results

  4. Wins or loses by forfeit

FAQ

Can my teams power rating change even if my team is not active?

Yes, anytime results are entered for any team you have faced, (in your class) your teams power rating will change.
