Former OLS pitcher Dellin Betances realizes dream
Former Our Lady of Sorrows pitcher Dellin Betances realizes a lifelong dream on June 6th, 2006 when he was drafted in the 8th round (254th pick) by the New York Yankees. Dellin, a lifelong Yankee fan was playing PlayStation baseball when he heard the news.

Betances is a 6'9" right handed flamethrower who was originally projected as a 1-2 round pick before the 2006 high school season began. He has been clocked at 96 mph on the radar gun and being that he is still developing, may be able to improve on that. He had an outstanding senior season at Grand Street campus compiling over 100 K's in just over 40 IP with a 0.17 ERA.

It is not clear whether Betances will sign with the Yankees. Dellin and his agent are reportedly asking for a $1 million dollar signing bonus, a number that is closer to what first round picks get. He is reportedly ready to play in a junior college team and re-enter the draft next season, if he does not get it.

This strategy worked for Brooklyn hurler Pedro Beato, who after being drafted in the 17th round by the Mets in 2005 held out and did not sign. Beato entered the 2006 draft and was taken by the Orioles with the 32nd overall pick.

    Congrats to Dellin Betances!
