SOME GAME NOTES FROM THE 1990-1991 SEASON

****PAOLI RALLIES PAST WEST WASHINGTON INTO SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP****

The Paoli Rams charged into the Championship Game of the 1991 Boys Basketball Sectional at Paoli with a breath taking come from behind win over a talented West Washington team Paoli's Joe Sibbitt connected with a 3-pointer while getting fouled to tie the game at 46 with 12 seconds left 5 seconds later Ray Sexton was fouled and made 2 free throws to ice the game as far as the rest of the game is concerned The Rams burst out to a 15-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter then went ice cold in the 2nd quarter they went 0-11 from the field while the Senators captured the lead West Washington's Center Neil Coyle had an extremely good second quarter while playing great defense and blocking numerous Paoli shots The Rams staged a rally to start the second half to get within 25-24 West Washington responded with an 8-0 run of it's own to end the 3rd quarter The Senators would stretch their lead to 13 (39-26) before Coyle ignited a Ram ralley by tipping in A Rams' players mised shot Paoli's Eddie Short responded with 6 straight points to make it 39-34 Ray Sexton put back a rebound basket while getting fouled he made the free throw to make the game 41-37 Short then hit 2 free throws with 2 minutes left but West Washington's Russell Kellar was fouled and sent to the line with a chance to expand the lead
he missed the first free throw of the one and one opportunity and Josh Babcock was fouled going after the rebound Babcock missed his free throw on the one and bonus opportunity and Coyle rebounded the ball for the Senatorsat the other end of the court Coyle recived the ball in the low post and as Coyle tried his post move Paoli's Toby Buchanan stood his ground and Coyle was charged with his 5th foul the reaction of that foul from West Washington's bench received the team a Technical foul Sexton made both Technical free throws for Paoli to cut the West Washington lead to 45-41 on the next possession the Rams fouled The Senators Jamey Haub who made the first free throw but missed the second Sexton pulled down the rebound and called timeout with 39 seconds left Short missed a shot inside but Toby Buchanan flew into grab the offensive rebound and put back basket to make it 46-43 then the Rams had no choice to foul and with 21 seconds left they fouled The Senators Tom Rosenbaum a 70% free throw shooter but Rosenbaum missed both free throws and with no timeouts left The Rams raced down court and got the ball to Joe Sibbitt who swished a long 3-pointer while getting fouled Sibbitt would miss the free throw but Joel Stroud would pull down the offensive rebound and pass the ball to Sexton who was then fouled and made both free throws for the 48-46 final score

****RAMS LOSE TO WASHINGTON CATHOLIC IN REGIONAL FINALS 74-58****

The Paoli Rams finished the season in the final game of the Washington Regional Saturday Night at the hands of a hot shooting Washington Catholic Cardinal Team 74-58 the win presented the Cardinals with their first Regional and teh chance to extend their 24-0 record season goin into Semi-State Washington Catholic set the tone early on as the "Defensive" Steimel twin Baline hit his 1st 3-point attempt The Cardinal success from the 3-point line pleased theor coach Mike Adams "Tonight we stepped up and hit those shots when you're able to make those shots plus go inside and gets baskets you'll win" Jow Sibbitt sank a 3-pointer to tie the game at 5 at 4:49 in the 1st Quarter Shane Steimel joined his brother in the scoring act hitting a 3-pointer Ray Sexton then got Paoli within 16-13 woth 45 seconds left then right at the end of the quarter Washington Catholic's Shane Steimel got a shot off as Toby Buchanan fought through a pick and landed on him as he released the ball Steimel made both free throws at the quarter break both teams traded baskets to start the 2nd Quarter then the Cardinals got their wings goin on the fast break Blane Steimel got on the runway with a 3 in transition Travis Madison then sped up his wings for a 3-pointer in transition Steimel then hit another transition 3-pointer to force a Paoli timeout The Cardinals finished the 13-0 when Ray Sexton fouled Pat McAtee as he drove to the basket on a breakaway layup he made the layup plus the free throw to finsih off the run Sibbitt hit a 3-pointer and Eddie Short made a basket to get Paoli within 14 at 47-33 but the hot hand of Washington Catholic would not let teh Rams get any closer the rest of the game and would cruise onto a 74-58 victory "Our kids made 3 or 4 pretty good runs to get it down to 14 but never could get below that" stated Paoli coach Mike Brown
