WP - C. Mink

Coming off a two consecutive wins over Mitchell and East Lake on Tuesday and Wednesday, The Palm Harbor Hurricanes were playing their third game in as many days vs Largo on Thursday. Once again, PHU received great pitching and big offense in route to a mercy rule 11-0 win over the Packers.

Senior Colt Mink started for the Canes and the lefty impressed for the complete game shut-out victory. Mink, continually hitting his spots, tossed six full innings while giving up only three hits and no runs to go along with his five strikeouts for the win.

Offensively, PHU jumped out early in the first when Senior AJ Hrica (3-4, 5 RBI’s, 2 runs scored, walk, 2 stolen bases) is walked to lead off the game then steals second. Senior Riley Degnan (2-5, 2 RBI’s, run scored, stolen base) moved Hrica to third on a ground out the right side. Senior Adam Jurco (2-4, 2 RBI’s, double, run scored) sharply singles easily scoring Hrica. Senior John Pichman (2 walks) reaches on a four pitch walk. Senior Brian Brown (2-3, walk) is also walked to load the bases. Senior Dan Hollander is hit by a pitch for the RBI and the Canes 2-0 lead.
With Mink settling in on the mound, Palm Harbor puts a couple more runs on the board in the 4th inning. Senior Evan DiFrancesco (1-2, HBP) bunts safety down the third base line to lead off the inning. DiFrancesco reaches third on a throwing error on the attempted steal. Junior Carter Wilson, who was perfect at the plate (2-2, triple, three runs scored, 2 HBP) is hit by a pitch. Hrica scolds a line drive single scoring DiFrancesco as the hustling Wilson heads into third and Hrica advancing to second on the throw. Degnan then ropes a single to right scoring Wilson.

Mink keeps putting up zero’s against Largo as Palm Harbor continues to score in the 5th inning. Sophomore Ryan Laheney walks as Freshman Mitch Farris comes in to run for Laheney. Farris advances to second on errant pick-off attempt. Hollander moves Farris to third on a ground ball out and then scores on a wild pitch. Wilson pounces on a 1-0 pitch and jacks a line drive triple to the left field fence. Hrica, staying hot, lines another RBI single scoring Wilson. Hrica steals second. Degnan then takes a two strike pitch up the middle for a RBI single scoring Hrica. Degnan steals second. Jurco finds the gap hitting a double to right center scoring Degnan.

The Canes put the game out of reach in the 6th inning plating three more runs. Brown walks to lead off the inning. Freshman Tyler Hoffman comes into run for Brown. DiFrancesco is hit by a pitch advancing Hoffman to second. Wilson is also hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hrica then takes the first pitch he sees and laces a bases clearing triple making the score 11-0 and the eventual end of game score.

Palm Harbor continues their busy baseball week as they travel to Kissimmee to face the 14-6 Osceola Kowboys at 1:00 p.m. in a non-conference, non-district game.
